[SOLVED] Help with Reverting Because Platinum Crashing On Startup
Hello, I'm unable to open my old projects depending on which plugins they contain. This is a newish problem, I'm on the newest as of today version of SPLAT (22.8.0.30). When I try to open projects I get an error like: A fatal error has occurred in plugin 'Õ_.' Module: c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\NYCompressor.dll
I want to revert to a safe version of SPLAT but don't know which one to go back to and if there are any risks in reverting (because I've messed around with the plugin manager or any other such thing). I do have a ticket open, but have read here that the lines are long these days...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Revert to the last version which worked for you. The changes to plug-in categories performed in the browser will not affect previous versions of SONAR. The previous versions are unaware of those changes. Changes to custom plug-in layouts made in the plug-in manager will be picked up by any version of Platinum.

First, I would try a reset and rescan before reverting back.

Reset and rescan what John? This is a fresh install of Windows 10, Sonar, and all plugs. Thanks scook, was just wondering for others that have had this problem, I know there are others out there with similar crashes.

Even so, it is still worth doing a RESET and RESCAN of your plugins via the Plugin Manager

Sonar rescans every time it opens. I tried it manually, no change. This is a crash on opening a project with a prior version of a plugin...I just don't know how far to revert Sonar. Anyone else who's had this problem your help would be really appreciated - how far back for a safe version?

I still see no mention of you doing a RESET. This is extremely important, apologies if you have but it's not clear from your posts.

Could you please attach the crash dump file that you see in the message box when you get the crash? You can attach it to this report. That will allow us to diagnose the problem. If you fill out a problem report and send it directly from the crash it will automate the process. You can also do it manually by following this link.

Bristol_Jonesey I have tried a reset/rescan, no change in crash behavior. Noel, thanks, I attached the crash dump to the email chain. Windows just updated today so I tried the same project and am getting the same result and attached that crash dump as well...

Thanks for providing the dump files. I have replied to your ticket with information about the crash which is a divide by zero error in the plugin you are using. You should contact the developer and give them the dump files. I am closing this case for now since it is a third party crash.

I will do that...it's strange that I wasn't having any trouble with it until recently...oh well. Is there any way to open the project without that plugin?

Yes hold down the shift key when opening the project. This will launch in safe mode and allow you to skip the plugins that you want to ignore. Alternatively you can remove the dll and let SONAR rescan before opening that project again... Bugs with plugins can be latent or not show up until specific conditions are met so its a bit of a crap shoot.
