A most interesting video.

I don't use Logic, so I am not familiar with the tools this guy is talking about, but everything else pretty much mirrors my approach to blank projects.

I agree with his approach to auditing presets and getting inspiration from sounds, and not being hung up about using a patch that wasn't created my me as such, although I do know enough about most of my synths to be able to tweak away.

I sometimes end up dumping many projects that I start this way, but I accept this... Sometimes I am initially inspired by a sound but then hit a wall. Time to dump and move on. Perhaps come back to it in a week/month/year to see if I can take it any further.

So, yeah, good video, IMO

No I have "Killer 8 Bar Syndrome" where you come up with one really good clip and can't decide where to go from there.

Perfect case for a collaboration......feed off and build up from someone else's idea and something interesting might just come out of it.

I find Stylus RMX to be the best way for me to get going. I just start laying different loops and usually something interesting arises. Then I plug in my guitar and start noodling.

Then I spend 10 months to finish it. :)

That's where loops come in handy but you can't get them to sound the way you want and then it's really a blank project with aesthetics.

They've got a new record out, after all those years.
Saw them tonight at BBC's Later ... with Jools Holland.

Only having 8 bars is "bumper music syndrome". Lately if that's what I have, I try to produce that.  At least it keeps the juices flowing and feeling stuck all the time is bad in lots of ways.
