Hi I'm a long time cakewalk user since version 7 through to X3
and now platinum thanks to the subscription model a legal customer
my question is is anyone else in the same boat
thank you for implementing the subscription model
You expect someone else to admit publicly to ripping off Cakewalk for a number of years ?
[ and the subscription path is more expensive than buying outright ]
Hendershott always said he wasn't worried about password protection because if you loved the product, you'd buy it. I started with CWPA4.
There were upgrades that were pretty bad (IMHO), and this was before trial versions were available. I bought back in when Sonar1 hit and it was no picnic even though I had my computer built specifically built for a daw and exceeded recommended specs. Sonar2 & 3 helped enormously.
I stopped for awhile then a friend gave me his copy of Sonar 7, and I completely got back in it and bought 8.5 and everything finally worked flawlessly. Bought X1 and it was terrible, went to X2 which was a sigh of relief, and then X3e was bullet-proof.
So I had a history of really feeling I'd wasted money (though I did get discounts along the way) and then the "subscription model" came out...
I upgraded to SPLAT outright the 1st year mainly because there was a lot of buzz that it may have been $199 the next year. I was impressed and content, but the only reason I upgraded this year was because I (oddly) had a lot of Christmas cash. I really wasn't intending to. Then the "lifetime membership" thing happened and I bought in for $99.
If Sonar exists 3 years from now all of my bad memories will be expunged, but as it stands they can hit me with the Sonar 7 thing if they want, because I'm extremely content.
