Throne Above The Stars
Hi Everyone: I have been working on another string piece. I think that this will end up as the first part of a longer and more complex piece. It is a work in progress and I would really appreciate any suggestions, thoughts or other feedback that you might be kind enough to give. As always I really appreciate the time you take to listen. https://soundcloud.com/user-336417081/throne-above-the-stars Thanks John

Nice one! I didn't get "powerful arrogant person" out of it at all, but rather something kind of wistful. This would be great to hear in a concert hall! thanks, -Tom

Thanks for listening and also thank you so much for taking the time to give feedback! I didn't explain the whole story because everyone hears music differently. At the risk of boring you, here a few details. The person's pride is his flaw. It leads him to a humiliating defeat. Yet even though he has been humbled and lost almost everything, his pride breaks through and blinds him to the opportunities he has been given to redeem himself by learning to be humble. He thinks he is wiser and more powerful than he actually is and in the end his pride tragically leads him to misery and destruction. Anyways that was sort of what I was thinking, so the feeling of an opportunity lost to avoid a tragedy that didn't have to happen was going to be a part of the story. I still feel like it will be part of a longer piece. Thanks Again John

Many thanks for taking the time to listen. I really appreciate the feedback! I am happy that you liked it. I used a bunch of different libraries. Mostly East West (solo violin, solo cello, silk, gypsy, symphonic orchestra ) and also Rapture Pro . The east west I am using is the cloud composer (I think it is gold or something like that. Thanks again John

I really like the way this builds and then collapses again. Then the bass pads make their mark...
This is a great piece and I am glad that I dropped in for a listen.
Cheers

I get a sense of introspection from this well captured and constructed piece, with a feel of movement. Thank you for sharing.

Mr. FSX I most certainly welcomed the opening bell tone. Very nice. For me, at 1:44, it kind of lost it's place, but then you played the bell again. The playing, and the idea are certainly top notch. At places it seemed like the solo violins and winds trotted ahead of foundation very slightly. Then the bell, for the third time, around 5:40, always centers the piece. I believe that the last 1:30 of your creation is very strong. I would listen closely to the middle 5 minutes and strengthen the continuity, and of course, you end, and I end, with a bell. love the bell my friend. Jesse Q. Screed

Hey John, very lovely piece. I really like when the bass section comes in around 1m -- that was surprising and beautiful. I heard some Brahms type chordings in this one which are very nice. Say, did you check out the Bartok and Beethoven (in particular the late) quartets? Very good work. Allan ===

Thanks so much! I am glad you liked the bass part. I will try to listen to Brahms. I meant to thank you for pointing out the Bartok and Beethoven quartets. I have been listening mostly to the Beethoven so far. I see what you mean, about them. I really like number 15, but they are all great. I have only scratched the surface so far with the Bartok quartets, but I will be listening to them too. Thanks again for the kind words! John

Nice work, John! I don't know that I'd change much, tbh, personally I enjoyed the way it is. About the only mix-nit I'd have is starting around the 3:20 mark where the focus is on the violin (or viola?), it seems to be "closer" than everything else. But whatever, this is good stuff.

Thanks! I really appreciate the time you took to listen and to comment. I am really happy that you liked it. I don't know much about mixing yet, I have started to use compression and have played around with the reverb. The EastWest Cloud composer X that I use is supposed to offer three mike positions but, I haven't been able to get them to work yet. But again, I really appreciate the time and the feedback. John
