This has a nice groove. It was recorded well. Things sound good.

Something is bugging me as I listen. Is the bass in tune?  Sometimes it seems to be but then there's other places where it sounds off just by the tiniest bit. Maybe it's just my ears....I'll shut up if not one hears it.

Nice work on the guitars..... the shredding in a country groove.... hummmmm that kinda worked ok actually. It was tasty and not gratuitous.   The overall length is a bit long.... approaching 5 minutes.

Over all, a good job by all.

Very nice! I like the mandolin, that was a nice touch! All the performances are top notch. The only thing I think could be improved are the drums. They sound a little buried in the mix. Everything else is very well done!

I love this. Confirms my decision to follow you! I was reminded of "Here Comes the Sun" until the instrumental built up and blew those pesky Beatles out of the water.

Like I said in the Comments section, I love the sound and the vocal. The instrumental is the icing on the cake. Excellent!

I'll be listening to this again. Thanks for the present!

Nice mix, with a lot of instruments playing around the melody without taking over. Great fiddle solo, really nice with the progress to fiddle/guitar duel.
Send compliments to the composer as well, good song and performance.

Very cool song and vibe. The production I think is very thoughtful and the vocal is a definite stand-out. Vocally like the Samples, a favorite of mine, or even the EAGLES! with a violin, and a really cool fiddle part it is.

I also would call out the bass, not for being in tune (those low instruments are harder to tell  about tuning but it sounds pretty ok to me tuning wise) but for the processing of it - I hear more "bass processing" than the actual bass. So it sounds super thick down there maybe? How did you process the bass?  I can't hear any string sounds . . . it's like you have boosted a narrow band of it. Or maybe it's because the entire song is 90% just one particular bass note? If you are ok with the processing I'd take it down in the mix a little. But I'd be tempted to roll the processing back and add back in some selective mids back to that bass, just to hear it more organically which might suit the rest of your piece.

At 2:48 you are penalized 15 yards for gratuitous yet awesome guitar solo work. I spilled my beer.  :)

    cheers, cool tune!

    Thanks Tom.
I had the bass squashed with compression with a low attack, with a slight EQ boost at 47Hz. I can fix it when we finish the song and I final- mix it. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

    Scott,

Awesome song and performances.  Wow, looking forward to hearing the final mix.   You have some excellent comments above already.

I may be in the minority with the following opinion but will throw it out anyway:)   From a production perspective it seems the second half of the guitar solo doesn't fit with rest of the song,   Referring to the tapping part starting at 2:48 through 2:56.  To me it doesn't sound country pop'ish like the rest of the track.   The solos beginning with the violin at 2:27-2:40 and the first part of the guitar solo from 2:40-2:48 fit like a glove and are great.  If it were me I would consider replacing the tapping part (2:48 - 2:56) by taking that solo section back into the song by repeating the violin part idea 2:34-2:40 on the guitar with either a guitar harmony or the violin as harmony.

That said, this is really spectacular work and had about 4-5 listens through it typing the above.

i get where you are coming from, though actually the violin parts leading up to that take it out of straight country-rock into something a bit more progressive.Scott was doing this stuff 7 years ago when i first joined the forum and was always pushing the envelope in terms of what you expect from a fiddler. of couirse, the fact he is equally adept at guitar is both infuriating and awesome.
anyhow i really enjoyed the whole song.

Thanks Mark! Don't sweat the guitar solo. Im pretty sure the entire guitar solo will be going away. I just threw it in as a filler while Roy writes a sub-chorus that will go in its place. Thanks for listening and for your kind observations.

    Hi Scott,

What a nice song and such a great performance. A cracking mix too... Full use of the stereo width and I could hear every piece perfectly, even though there was quite a lot going on in places. Brilliant lead section!

    StriJam,
def a great song and effort.

I'm wondering though, if maybe it is a bit busy.  I think you might want to pull  some of the instruments back in places.  Might it lend a little more emotion to the piece?  I just seems like it goes like a jackrabbit front to end.

However, the capture, performance, and rendering, are top motch.

    Very skillful by all involved.

    Hi Scott,

What a nice song and such a great performance. A cracking mix too... Full use of the stereo width and I could hear every piece perfectly, even though there was quite a lot going on in places. Brilliant lead section!

    cheers
