Old Men And Their Hot Rods

I seem to be focusing on car-tunes recently.  So, at the risk of overplaying something, here is another one.  It might also be that we have just come out of the spring car/rod show season around these parts.  It seems at the shows that I went to, many of the "rods" were driven by the -- shall we call them the more "mature" rodders.  At least I felt at home.

Anyway, I hope the song gives you a bit of a giggle and as always, I will be grateful for any comments and suggestions.

I will be putting up a video on YouTube in a few days (or so) which will confirm the title of this song.  I'll let y'all know when it is posted.

Thanks.

I like the boogie/driving rhythm from the bass and the little bits of EP that bubble up through the mix.  For me the vocal sounds a bit distant, perhaps either take off some of the reverb/slap-back or bring it up a bit.

Overall a nice fun track, thanks for sharing.

Yup, the song very much fits the theme.       There were a few timing issues here and there, but overall I think you've captured the right vibe.

Very nicely done Freddy....a perfect fit of your vocals/rhythm/tune/lyrics. Came across really well balanced/clean mix on my h-phones.

drums, bass, guitar seem solid as heck!

Your vocal performance is a keeper as well!

However, I think your vocal treatment could use another look. It kind of works as is, but if you keep that delay processing, please push the main vocals up in the mix, and leave the slapback at approx. the volume it's at. Right now, your lead vocal is just a little bit louder than the delay, which makes for some muddy waters.

As is, I think the bass guitar is just as loud as the vocal?

theme-wise, I live in a summer hot rod festival town, so I totally get it!

    cheers,
    -Tom

Thanks Wookiee. I appreciate the input!  I am finalizing the video and still need to add the audio.  So, I will beef-up the vocals a bit.  Thanks again!

Hi Steve.  I thought someone might notice the when I started the vocals just a bit before it was time on that last verse.  That style worked for Jimmy Reed but not here.  Thanks for listening and for the input!

Hi Daryl.  Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.  I appreciate the kind words.

Hey Scotty.  Thank you.  I know I can relate but I still don't have my hot rod.

Hey Mesh.  I very much appreciate the comments.  I'm glad you liked it.

    Hiya Freddy,

    That was fun

I'm listening again while reading the comments above. I can't really add to what has already been said. I'm not picking up the bass so much, but I listen with earbuds so that may account for that. And, besides, if the bass was removed I reckon I'd sure notice it was missing... Sometimes subtle bass, sitting nicely with the kick, is the way to go

Cool lyrics... You have a nice piece of work here

    cheers

Hi Tom.  Thanks for the kind words and suggestions.  I have brought up the vocal as much as I dared.  Hope that improves it a bit.  Being an old guy myself (ahh, let's call that mature), I felt right at home when I went to a couple of shows to shoot video.

Hey Mark.  I guess I'll have to come up with a song that will motivate you to get up out of that chair.  How is retirement going?  I love the songs on the two posts that you have put up.  Excellent stuff buddy!

Hey Arlen.  Thanks for listening and the kind words. Is that you and your granddaughter in the picture?  If so, she looks like a real sweetheart!

Hiya Andy.  I appreciate your taking the time to listen and comment.  I go back and have a listen to the bass.  Thanks again.

Hi Makke.  Thanks for the comments - I appreciate them. As I mentioned above, I have to go back again and listen to the bass.

    Hey, Freddy,

Very cool and fun "blues-a-billy" vintage rocker!

As always, creative songwriting, great playing and singing, and a nice mix that sounds right on target for the genre!

    Great stuff, buddy, excellent work!

Hi Bob.  Great to hear from you.  Thanks for the kind words.  I appreciate it.  Good luck on the new CD release.  You have been putting out some great stuff recently!

Thank you Rikkie.  I grew up loving the Blues and Rockabilly.  To misquote John Lee Hooker, I guess "...it's in me and got to come out."  Now --- if I could learn more than three chords   ;>)

love the bass/rhythm guitar sound. really drives the song on. drums are OK but lack any real weight. the vocals grew on me, but prob do need a little less of the slapback verb or maybe utilise that as an effect.
i was hoping for a searing solo or some change-up!

Apparently I had some issues with the vocals on this.  In particular the reverb.  I have a propensity to over use it.
Thanks for listening and I appreciate the feedback!
