applying external insert on vst

Hi all
I recently bought a boss ps6 harmonist pedal which works great using my ewi 5000
But what I want to do if possible is use this pedal via cakewalk sonar x3 studio version playing the vst s I have .
I have an akai eie soundcard for which I plug the pedal into one of the external inserts

Thanks

You cannot use an external insert on a VST.
A VST is internal and doesn't not need to use an external insert on a bus. The external insert is used for processing the audio using outboard gear. Its used to take the signal out of the digital Realm and into the analog world and then back into the digital realm (sonar)

    NOW:
To use your outboard effect, you use use a RE-Amping Method or external insert

Sure you can; External Insert in the FX bin of a Synth or Instrument track works just like it would on a normal Audio track. The only challenge in this case is the physical routing and impedance matching of the signal.

I'm not familiar with the routing options of the Akia EIE interface. I assume the insert circuit it's designed to operate only on the input signal, but in this case it would need to be able to route the output from the DAW through the insert and back to the DAW input.

If it can't do this, you'll need to use a "re-amping" box to take the line-level signal from and interface output into the high-impedance, instrument-level input of the pedal FX, and then route the ouput of the pedal to a Hi-Z, instrument-level input on the interface.

    Hi thanks for reply
unfortunately using an external isn't working you are right in what you are saying outboard effects can only be used on the channel they are plugged into ie ewi into channel one with external effects in the same external input channel
So it looks like I am forced into reamping external devices that I have
Will I be able to use all external hardware playing on internal vst using this method and how would I need to set it up for it to work
