Need help with new laptop

Greetings, fellow Sonarians,

I am in one of those blessing/curse situations where I am getting a new laptop. I have always been a windows user but recently, I've been exposed to a macbook air and I have to admit, I love it. However, I have not done any music work on it. While I realize there is not an "ideal" setup for sonar, I am curious as to your advice on my next move. Please give me some of your ideal brands and specs for a dream setup. Any little push in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for listening.

well, my first thought is, if your serious about using this Computer for DAW work only and IF it's practical,
go with a desktop VS. a Laptop.
I have used Laptops in the past but nothing gave me more production, expansion for future improvements like a Desktop.

I build my own custom PC's. My latest is an Intel I7 4790K and I could not be more happy with it.
Some of us need a Laptop because of mobility, convenience, size of area, exc...
but if something goes wrong, you are tied to either A: taking it somewhere to get it fixed. or B: opening it yourself hoping you don't break something in the process.
I have worked on many laptops in my day and im sure any other builder here would agree 100%.
we would much rather work on a desktop than a laptop and we will charge half the price to fix a desktop.

Video can also be a large roll in buying a desktop. if you want multi monitor support, there is only so many options you have with a laptop.
So I wish I could give you more advise on MAC or PC but I cant really because I avoid MAC.
that's not to say I don't like them, I just have more experience on a PC.

Windows 8.1 X64 Sonar Platinum x64
Custom built: Asrock z97 1150 - Intel I7 4790k - 16GB corsair DDR3 1600 - PNY SSD 220GB
Focusrite Saffire 18I8 - Mackie Control

Thank you for these responses, folks. It was an overwhelming feeling, having so many options but this is really helping me narrow my focus!

Since I switched to a laptop several years ago I can easily say I would never go back to a desktop ball and chain.

It's so freeing. Like the feeling when you first start having everything on SSD drives versus old drives.

It's hard to imagine how limiting it would be to always work from a desktop again.

That's my two cents.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Seems everyone's asking about laptops these days. There's a plethora of posts on the subject so my advice to everyone asking is... read up on the posts already in the forum. Truth is almost any decent laptop will handle Sonar and just like your desktop, the more the better when it comes to ram, hdd space, etc.
