Please help me decide on a new purchase
I am trying to decide between purchasing iZotope Music Production Bundle 2 and Softude Console 1. I am really impressed by the hands on aspect of Console 1 and with the upcoming Sonar update that will provide full integration with Console 1 makes it hard to resist. However, the iZotope Music Production Bundle 2 seems to offers so much more. I am trying to decide if weather the advantage of having hand on along with a great SL 4000 E console emulation out ways the Music Production Bundle 2. They are both currently on sale for the same price. I would love to get an opinion from people who have some experience with these two excellent products. Thanks

Hi. I have only demoed these products (in other studios), but I'm saving up for a Console1. I just like having the tactile feel of having something physical to adjust. Both sounds great in my opinion, but I choose the physical product. And seeing that SONAR is one of two DAW's (that I know of) that is marketed with this integration makes it a big + in my book. All the best.

Thanks Ken, I feel the same way when it comes to having the tactile feel. I am really leaning toward the Console 1. However, I really like the Mastering capabilities that iZotope offers as well. It has been a tough decision.

I can't help you decide. But I'm convinced you will have the iZotope collection at some point before long. It's just a good one to have.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Thank you Lawajava, I have been watching a lot of Youtube videos of iZotope and they are indeed very good. It is such a tough decision, I wish I could afford them both but I am also buying a new pair of JBL 308 monitors.

Choose the one that helps you make better music. Which will make you more creative? Take what's in your head to a hard disk? Make a statement? Cause an emotional impact? That's all that matters. Gear is nothing, emotion is everything.

Thanks Craig, emotionally I want the Console 1 because it is hard to resist the ability of being able to turn those knobs. I am agonizing trying to decide if I am leaving too much capability on the table by passing on the iZotope bundle.

Probably the reason why you're having a hard time deciding is because they're sooo different. It's not like "should I get reverb A or reverb B." One option is about workflow, the other about tools. A lot of what the iZotope bundle can do is available in SONAR, but requires more effort to implement (e.g., Trash vs. using multiple instances of TH3). What it has that SONAR doesn't have is the RX functionality and Ozone's mastering goodies. If you find your music isn't up to its full potential because it has noise and other issues that RX could nuke, and isn't well-mastered, then the iZotope bundle is probably the best choice. But if the priority is a hands-on workflow, then Console 1 is where you want to go.

Craig, I think you provided me with a great insight in my decision making process. I have every cakewalk plugin that cakewalk provides for the ProChannel. I have a decent understanding on how to use compressors, EQ’s and limiters. I have been studying them for many years. However, I am not a professional so I still struggle with the Mastering process. Most of the clients I work with do not have the capital to afford what a good mastering house can provide. I really only need something similar to what Ozone provides which seems to be a more straight forward approach to Mastering. I am able to get descent results using the Mastering tools that Cakewalk provides but it could be better. I am big on the workflow aspect to music making. Nothing aggravates me more than losing my momentum by having to spend a lot of time figuring out something when I am creating. Sometimes I limit myself to the capability of my Roland Fantom G when creating a track. I only have the included sounds to work with and the capabilities of the on board sequencer and I am able to create faster. Afterward, I can transfer the track to Sonar and replace some of the sounds using the endless amount of plugins and sounds I have which can take forever. The creating part is faster but transferring everything is a cumbersome process and not ideal. I use this process when I am creating a track for a client. I say all this to say that you have just convinced me to go with Console 1 because workflow is more important to me. I will spend more time with the mastering tools I currently have on hand. Thank you for your guidance.

Glad to be of help! However, do remember that working with a control surface is something you have to practice with and learn to re-train your muscle memory and become truly fluid with it. This will be less of an issue because Console 1 is intended to support SONAR as well as be general-purpose, but don't become disappointed because it hasn't improved your workflow after a week or two. It will likely take you a month or so to get good at using a control surface. As to mastering...you can always try a free LANDR preview and see if it gets you closer to where you want to go. The only plug-in I consider essential for decent mastering that SONAR lacks is a maximizer type of plug-in, but you can get really close with the LP MB, followed by the Concrete Limiter to control any leftover peaks.

This is true; I am prepared to put in the time it takes to become proficient at using Console 1. Hopefully I will get my money’s worth out of it. Can you recommend a Maximizer plug-in excluding Waves products? I have been tempted to give LANDR a try. I have read mix results from users.

Wow, just $40; that is a very good price, have you used this product before? I will give the demo a try. Do you think it offers anything more than what the Concrete Limiter can do?

I bought The Wall pre-order. It's meant as direct competitor of the Waves & Izotope Maximizers and I like it as a transparant limiter sofar. I haven't demoed Concrete limiter, but the Wall offers dual limiter mode and a flavor bar (compression vs clipping/distortion). Maybe you can do a shootout between both?

I guess you dont need any of the two. Pluginwise you find everything in Sonar, so now you only missing the control surface features of the Softube. It seems to me its a market gap - there should be a simple MIDI product that costs $-20- $30 with say three knobs, two sliders and couple od switches to control DAW or effects soyou think you need to spend $??? on hardware.
Windows 10/64, Intel i7 Xeon X6575 3,07GHz, 24Gb RAM, chipset: Intel X58 Express, Kingston SSD 240Gb, Sonar Platinum ∞, Edirol UA-25. ( Some extra VSTs: PSP almost all/ IK - AT4, ST3, / AAS - all/ TH3 full/ +10dB/ Melodyne Editor). EVE sc205 monitors, Defil Kosmos guitar, blue lava lamp, ashtray. And there is some great music you may find at: https://soundcloud.com/pawel-jan-1

That's because it gives mixed results . But you can do free previews, and decide for yourself whether the results are better or not than what you have. There are three "strength" options; I find the low one doesn't do much, the high one does too much, so try the middle one. (If LANDR put two more options in there on either side of the middle one, I think it would be more effective.) As to maximizers, I haven't tried the Boz digital so can't comment. However of all the ones I have tried, the Waves are to my ears far and away the best.

I have own many generic midi controllers and they have all been to finicky to use reliably with Sonar. I even purchased the Cakewalk A300 keyboard and while it does the best out of all of the ones I have owned, it still doesn't have the level of integration of Console 1 or say my NI Mashine.
