How do I launch CA-2A?
First of all, a HUGE thanks to Cakewalk for the free copy of CA-2A! Awesome move on their part! Now on to my question..... I've been working only with MIDI since I first purchased SONAR Artist. I'm about to start working with audio, which is why the CA-2A offer came at the perfect time. So now that I've installed it, I have no idea how to bring it up to work with it. I opened a MIDI song to test, but is CA-2A not for MIDI tracks? Is it only for audio? This is totally new to me, so any help would be appreciated. The manual doesn't address this, as far as I can tell.

Find it in your browser in Cakewalk. Search for CA-2A and just drag to FX bin.

And yes, it only works on audio. If you want to hear it on a track that is presently midi simply bounce your track to audio, then apply any audio effects you like. All the best.

Or you can make a new audio track and choose the midi instrument you are using as the input then record the midi output to the new track. This leaves your midi track intact just be sure to mute it and use the audio track which you can add the CA-2A to either in the FX bin or in the ProChannel.

You do not need to bounce or record anything. Just insert the plugin into the Fx bin or the Pro Channel of the audio track and you're done.

I always just stick it in the fx bin on the audio track that is created for the VSTi by default. No bouncing required as Jonesey said.

I I have a question for the OP, if you use midi always, how are you allowing people outside of Sonar to hear your music? How are you listening to it on your iPod, or mobile device, what about your car? You must be bouncing you tracks down to export as wave or MP3.

Just insert it into the output channel dedicated to your midi instrument - as thats where you audio is=-) You may need to enable the effects bin if you have "frozen" your synth. Either way - thats the way to do it!

I'm a solo guitarist/keyboardist, and use MIDI as backing tracks for stage shows. Mostly bass and drums, sometimes a little more than that. I don't bother exporting them to wav or MP3, just play them as is from SONAR on stage. It gives me a little more flexibility for live shows. But now I'm going to record some of my original music to make a CD, so I'm expanding into the world of audio. I've been in recording studios many times, and had my own in the 90's, but the DAW environment is new to me this past year, so I'm still getting to know all the ins and outs of it.
