Copy/Paste or Cut/Paste
Ok, guys, your computer dummy is back. Here's my situation. I created "artifical" harmonies using Melodyne - but I made them sound real - and they sound real too. During the verses, there are four different lines with the Melodyne created harmonies. So the main vocal sings and at four different spots in the verse the harmonies join the main vocal line. Make sense so far? Well, I could never get that fourth line to sound "real." So I deleted it. Now, the vocalist is going to come in and sing those parts. Once that fourth part is tracked can I simply go to the time ruler and highlight that section with that track highlighted too and then copy (or cut) just the part the vocalist added and then paste it to the track with the Melodyne created harmonies? That way all of the parts for the harmonies are on the same track. Obviously, I plan to adjust the dynamics so that the two go together well. It would make the workflow much eaiser. Just wondered if doing a copy/paste would be the same as bouncing them to the same track. Really just want all the harmonies on the same track. Clear as mud?

What you want is entirely possible. Though I always record my harmonies so that each harmony line is on it's own track where I have total control over EQ, compression, Fx sends, panning

Oh yes, if the harmony was sung live it would be all on one track. In other words, the song has the main vocal track and then one harmony track that joins the main vocal track 4 times on the verse. The harmony was created for me to learn how to sing it live (because I am primarily a guitarist that attempts to sing harmony). (That's code for I suck at singing). Good to know that I can copy/cut and add the part to the harmony track. Everyone on here has been extremely helpful. Eventually, I will post the song when completed so I can get totally ripped on for my horrible musicianship and terrible mixing skills - ha! Ha!

Be aware that copy and cut are different. (only in Sonar ... no other software ... ). Select by time range and copy, then you paste to the correct time; Select by time range and cut, then your selection time range changes, and your paste will go to the wrong place.

Thanks for the tip! The copy function seems to be what I need to do.

I think you'll have to try a different forum for that. Around here you're more likely to get helpful constructive advice and encouragement :) AMB

Everyone has been extremely helpful here. Being that I began using Sonar as my first DAW in February, I do expect some serious criticism when I post my first completed mix.
