Smart tool question; answered; hoping for change.

I have noticed a change where the smart tool does not allow clip length changes depending on locations of other takes.  It shows other tools as I move along the clip edge, but not the  "[" or "]".  I'm not sure when this changed.  It works fine when there are no other clips starting/stopping near the clip edge.  Anyone else seeing this?  Forgive me if I missed a documented work flow change...

Thanks

The 2016.07 update had some changes in this area (at least when working with take lanes).  I think (from memory) that you may have to hold down Ctrl to  achieve what you are trying to do but best to read up on the full details at:

Thanks AntMan the ctl key is right.  I would rather have the crop clip tool come up without ctl in smart tool and one of the new tools require a ctl key.  If its not too much trouble?

    Just my feedback.

I'm not sure I understand the issue. If you're talking about slip-editing, you don't need Ctrl for that. If you're talking about time-stretching, you do but the only difference compared to before is you also need to hold shift. Also I don't know if you're referring to Take Lanes or tracks, or what "near" the clip edge means. Could you be a little more specific? Things work the way I expect them to but obviously, not the way you expect them to so I'm not sure where the difference lies.

There are times when the smart tool does not show the slip-edit icon depending on alignment of other clips in lanes of track.  It seems like when one clip stops and another clip starts.  I'm at work now so I'm sorry I cannot give better details.

Craig, the issue involves pair of changes documented on the linked New Features page on comping enhancements:

     - Cross-cropping abutting clips is now possible without a modifier key. Position the mouse pointer in the top half between two abutting clips, then drag up/down.

    - To crop just a single clip, hold down the CTRL key and drag the left or right clip edge.

In other words, if the edges of two clips in a lane are abutting as the result of splitting, whether with the split tool or the comp tool, you can drag the split point left/right  by dragging with no modifier key (I think it's an error that the note says 'drag up/down' which applies only to the cross-fade tool) - in other words the two clip edges are cropped together by the same amount.

If you want to crop only one of them, you now have to hold Ctrl to get the individual cropping tools in lanes. In the parent trackw ith lanes closed, you'll still get individual tools without hold Ctrl.

Yes. This new feature can be really annoying!!!!!!!! I'd rather have it be the other way around- hold ctrl to slip edit 2 clips at once and leave it the way it used to work. I've noticed several irregularities when working with lanes that are really frustrating. I've had several instances in which clips get random fades and slip edits apparently on their own, which is super frustrating and took me a long time to fix. It has happened twice- on different projects. A track that was perfect all of a sudden has all these slip edits and fades that I didn't perform.
