There isn't a build-in tuner in sonar, is there?

I also have the Polytune from TC, which is not free (/ cheap for a tuner), but very good. All the best.

You could check out MTuner from Melda productions. I believe it's included in the free Meffectsbundle
I tried Melda plugins the other day. Besides the fact I never got a reading from the tuner, the installation process is not userfriendly, one has to download and install all plugins in the bundle, if I recall correctly. But thanks for suggesting.

GTune and MTuner work best if the track is set to a mono input. Also make sure to have input echo enabled. Although the Melda installer has all the plug-ins, I am pretty sure it is possible to deselect them all and check only the ones you want to install.

It used to have one. I occasionally use the Cakewalk tuner from a legacy version that still loads under Cakewalk audio effects. Not sure when they took it out. Maybe you can still get it.

I don't want to sound rude or anything, but can one tuner plugin be better than the other? Other than design and visibility? More complex algorithms or somtn? I have absolutly no idea, hence my question..

My MOTU "CueMix FX" has a tuner. I've got several others including Cleartune on my iPhone, but I use my Peterson StrobOPLUS HD. I have custom tuner programs for my Pedal Steel. I have people tune with the Peterson for recording sessions.

The nice thing about the mTuner is that you can select the frequency range to what it needs to respond. I' use it sometime to help me tune kickdrums quickly by adjusting the detection range from between 40Hz to a 100Hz. There are some very useful tools in the free Melda bundle, that should have been included with Sonar. (eg. mAnalyzer, mScope, mNoisegenerator)

Peterson Strobosoft is a digital tuner so you can give it the confidence it desserves ( meaning trust ears if something goes wrong) but it has a really easy to read graphic and tons of options which allow you even to adjust your instrument intonation.
Personnaly If It came to make a choice once more I would go toward it again..

I have guitar rig 4 with a built in tuner there but I never use it. only to reference once in a while if my tracks have piano, soft synths accompanying string instruments.
I just like the feel of something tangible, something I can hold and dial in vs a plug in.
I have also found minute differences in tuners (VST tuners and Digital standard tuners.)

I usually use " G-Tune," it is basic and free. It does the job well enough for my guitar and figuring out the pitch of samples in Battery 4.

I sure like those portable head-stock tuners . That's how I've done it for a long time myself .... They sure come in handy when you are tuning up acoustic instruments ...uke , dobro , mandolin , acoustic gtr... The one I was using for a few years was a Planet Waves that decided to commit Harakiri by jumping off the head stock of my Guitalele a couple of weeks ago.... it broke ... I don't blame the poor thing for getting tired of listening to what I was playing ..the thing is , I had depended on that thing so much for so long that now it's like WOW  ... I don't know about anyone else here , but my guitars can stay in tune for weeks at a time if I'm just playing them. The second I go to record something for any reason , all of a sudden them goodie two shoe guitars that used to stay in perfect tune become a bunch of rebellious planks of wood w strings and frets that go out of their way to stick it to me  I kid you not , out of nowhere my G string will get stuck on the nut and go sharp .Bend a note , my B string goes flat . Hit a power chord even lightly and my low E string want's to drift all over the place ... shessh...I can understand that with 9 's ...the lightest gauge string I use are 11's and my guitars are set up nicely ... All that can become a real Muse Kill ...so much so I went back to using the hardware tuner in my live pedal board. It's always on and I don't have to stop every thing I'm doing just to tune up ....
