still getting not enough memory for midi devices.
I got rid of all the hidden midi devices in *device manager* per Craig. Wtf is this all about? It doesn't happen all the time.

The ghost ports happen when a midi device gets plugged into a different USB port, and over time, you can end up with several of these hidden entries.
I always plug my midi devices into the same ports, so it rarely happens to me - every few months I will view hidden devices to see if I have managed to accumulate any, and I will simply delete them. It only takes a few seconds to do.

Yes, but despite my housekeeping i get the memory thing every now and then. It disables all my peripherals upon start up.

If you go into device manager (of course we're talking about windows here), go up to *view* and click *show hidden ports* you'll find that there are many, many ghost ports (ports that are faded). If you get too many, per Craig Anderton it can interfere with the available memory for midi devices in SPLAT (or other versions). Upon start up, sonar may say *not enough memory for midi peripherals* and disable them for that session.
I've uninstalled all my ghost ports, but still get the message occasionally.

Actually, you are usually going to need to show "non-present devices," rather than to show "hidden devices" to solve this problem. Unless you have already changed the default Windows setting, devices that are not connected will not show up as either default visible or hidden in device manager. Hidden devices generally are non plug and play devices that are not displayed by default. Non-present devices (aka ghost devices) are devices for which windows has an installed driver and connection protocol, but which is not presently connected to Windows. To see non-present devices you need to open a command prompt as administrator, then type: SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1 http://www.thewindowsclub...resent-devices-windows

This happens to me only when I launch PodFarm 2 before SONAR. If I launch PodFarm after SONAR, I don't get the message. Are you opening anything before SONAR?

its very hard trying to guesstimate what you have for a soundcard and/or what you have for midi devices.
are you running more than 1 midi device ?

Yes, I have two keyboards and a behringer x-touch and a shuttlepro.

Wondering if you have an onboard sound card, or something that's running in the background that's talking to either Sonar or your interface?

Add me to this list of folks suddenly experiencing this. As a bit of background, I have of late been A/B testing my older POD Farm 2.57 Platinum against the CakewalkTH3 to see if I want to upgrade. Also of note is that when this does occur, Propellerhead Reason 9.1 (which usually absolutely seamlessly handles MIDI) also can't see my Korg padKontrol or Nektar Panorama P1 controllers -- which were really more or less made for Reason. So I created another thread ( http://forum.cakewalk.com...Platinum-m3503982.aspx ) before I was referred to this one and followed slartabartfast's recommendation of disabling Chrome's ability to take MIDI over and so far, it seems to work OK. I'm at work right now, but I wanted to add my findings and methodology so as to be helpful if possible. It seems to me that POD Farm is a part of this at this point based on others reporting so when I get home, I will experiment a bit to see if I can recreate the issue and if so, what exactly I did to do that.

Then it seems like the fix is easy enough -- don't do that! Thinking about it, this has only happened to me since my attempts to A/B POD Farm with TH3 (which must be run inside of SONAR) so I guess this cinches it. I may set my Chrome browser back the "Let Chrome Decide" because I have never had a problem with this before and I always use Chrome. Still, it's good to know that's there -- since I didn't know that before.

As mentioned above, I've also had this happen. Consistently it's when I open SPLAT after using PodFarm 2.5. If I open Sonar first, no issues.
i7 Quad Core, Windows 7 Professional, 8gig ram, 1TB 7200rpm HD running SPLAT with Novation LaunchKey 49 and Line6 UX-1.

This has been happening to me a bunch in the last couple of weeks. I haven't changed anything with my MIDI Keyboard. Same cord, same USB port.
