SONAR takes FORTY or MORE minutes to load!!!!

I have Sonar Artist and it takes 40+ minutes to load. I previously had Sonar x3 which took just as long to load...which is why I bought Artist. I have Windows 10 64. I have HP 500-017c computer with AMD Quad Core AB-5500 Accelerated Processor, 8GB DDR3 system memory, 1TB hard drive.

Hi. If you list your specs (OS, CPU, RAM, Audio Interface / sound card, video card etc) it will be easier to help.
All the best.

This doesn't seem like a Sonar problem at all to me.
It sounds like either:

- Bad Hard drive
- Possibly bad RAM
- Failing CPU

But more often than not, it a bad hard drive. I would do a Check disk.
To be honest, it's very difficult to make any predictions/suggestions when you haven't listed your specs or devises.

As suggested, I would check the hard drives first.
Windows 7 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2641432
Windows 8 / 10 http://www.thewindowsclub.com/disk-error-checking-windows-8

I had an experience with an external USB hard drive that was going bad, caused crazy slowdowns on the PC it was attached to, until I unplugged it.

Take a look under Disk Management at your internal drives(s) partitions.  Look for the "Healthy" status.

This CrystalDiskInfo is also a handy free utility to look at your disk health with http://crystalmark.info/?lang=en

My largest projects take about 30 seconds to load. Check drives but also synths loading samples. Create a few project tests. Some with only random audio. Do ALL of your projects load slowly? Even the smallest?

Before trying any of the suggestions here, consider backing up your hard drive just in case it is getting ready to fail.

Yeah, I agree with the bad hard drive diagnosis.  Check the Event Viewer and see if there are loads of "Disk Error" entries in System.  Run Chkdsk.

Maybe you are out of disk space???

Bad RAM usually results in BSODs.  But maybe you have too little RAM?  Or maybe your pc is too old (slow CPU).

Maybe you have a lot of malware/virii installed? You should have a second computer for all your naughty business.

Check Device Manager for devices with yellow exclamation marks - this usually means that drivers are not installed.  Also make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your system.  If you have a kick ass pc but the vendor's drivers aren't installed your pc will use the generic drivers and you will not see the benefit of having kick ass hardware.

Maybe some other piece of hardware is failing, disconnect all non-essential hardware and test.

I had for 2 years two computer running for analog recording tape machines (digitazing) with 400 MHz and 2 GB RAM (Windows XP). They started X2 (empty project) in 20 seconds and recorded projects with over 100 GB.
Do you have Windows 10 installed on a Pentium III computer with only 2 GB RAM?

DO NOT LET THE COMPUTER CONTROL YOUR CREATIVITY...we must fix your problem...I recommend you backup all the SONAR related stuff necessary like the "C:CAKEWALK CONTENT" AND THE "C:CAKEWALK PROJECTS" folders to another hard drive and then follow suggestion #3 of this thread...re-install windows and then re-install SONAR to fix your problem...IMHO. Good Luck! - Shawn

Did you SEE the TITLE of this THREAD !!!!...   shy ? doesn't sound like it.
his last post was 1 month ago claiming the same problem. rather than finish that thread. he just waited a month and started a new one with the same problem / different title.

Try downloading an app like Throttle Stop, which is a CPU throttling utility.  It has many features, but for this purpose, you only need it to see the current speed of your CPU.  Recently, I've started opening Throttle Stop whenever I'm getting weird audio glitches in Sonar, or my computer seems to be running slowly.  Often, when this happens, I find that my CPU is running at some crazy low speed.  Normally, my CPU runs around 3300Mhz, and Sonar purrs right along. Sometimes though, Windows will throttle my CPU down to 798Mhz for some reason, and I start getting poor performance and audio glitches in Sonar.  It may have something to do with Windows power management settings.  I'm still looking into it.

FYI, you can also use this software to stop Windows from throttling your CPU.  This can make for more stable performance in some programs.

Got a PM with the specs. Will ask about his AI.
