Sidechaining compression in Sonar Platinum
I have the kick drum and bass guitar issue going on right now and thought I would use sidechain compression to bring out the kick drum more. The Cakewalk Table of Contents indicates that the PC4K S type Bus compressor can be used to do this but only in Sonar Producer. But I have been able to put the PC4K on the tracks (and buses) and the switch for sidechaining - I can enable it. However, I am still having issues getting the kick to come through over the bass guitar.
The kick drum is from Addictive Drums 2, the bass guitar is a 5 string Ibanez and the song uses the low B string (as the key is B flat minor).
My question is what the heck am I doing wrong that I cannot get the kick drum to come through over the bass guitar using sidechaining compression?
I followed this youtube video when setting it up:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tkWeQR4UJf0I have floated through all of the compressor settings and cannot tell the difference.
My project has the kick drum on its own track (output routed to the Drum Bus) and the bass guitar on its own track (output routed to the Bass Guitar bus).
Will you guys help out this old fart? Can you walk me through setting up sidechaining compression for the purpose of having the bass guitar "duck" and the kick drum to come through when they are played together?
Dumb it down for me - like I know nothing about Sonar (because it is probably something so simple that I passed over it).
I followed the youtube video link (it has the bass/kick scenario in the video) but still - I can't hear a change. Yes, the song is a heavier rock song and I am looking for that punchy kick drum sound - which I have on the EQ already.
