Nighttime Shades of Blue

Here is another song and this time it is not a car song!  It is an old one that I had forgotten about.  So, I dusted it off and tried to dress it up a bit.  It is a Bluesy style song and hopefully it sounds as if it has some jazzy overtones to it.

As always  --- I will appreciate your giving it a listen and will appreciate any comments, suggestions, crit's, etc.

Thanks!

Beautiful clean guitar tone, jazzy changes, nice drunken vocal. Drums seem to be out of sync. I wonder if this track would be better off with very understated way-in-the-back brush-style drumming, leaving you free to slide around a bit with the vocal and guitar timing?

    Hi Freddy,

Nice playing here. Good song too, I liked that

I think Larry may have a point regarding the drums.

I'm also thinking that the encoding at soundclick hasn't done the overall sound quality any favours.

    cheers

Hey Freddy -- this has a great "in your face" feel in the mix that I like a lot.  The guitar tones are great and well recorded.  Vocals have that bluesy feel to 'em that fits the song and their are some interesting unusual chord changes.  Once you fix the drum timing bits -- which you could easily do -- this is a solid demo. (I like that title, too.)

Cool tune, love the vocal harmonies.  And the guitars sound good and fit the mood.   As for the drums, I agree with the above that they're not completely in sync with the rest of the arrangement, as though they're too rigid, and the fills seem to be off a little when leading into the next bar.    Personally I'd like to hear something smokier, perhaps brushes, as Larry mentioned.

As always Freddy the guitar is sweet but those drums do need some attention, nice blues feel to it.  Thanks for sharing.

Sorry for the delay in responding to your comments. I have been driving myself crazy trying to find some brush loops to fit this song.  Of course I could not find any and this resulted in my having to do a lot of cut and paste.  The results are not what I want, but they are the best I could come up with for the moment.  As a further challenge I have been having problems with my audio interface and my aging computer.  After a Windows 10 update (a couple of months ago), I have been having troubles with crackling and popping.  This happens not only while I'm recording/editing songs but also with some of the audio on audio players and streaming.  I can't seem to find a solution --- sooo, I guess it is time to contact the manufacture to see if they have a solution (other than buying a new one).

Hi Larry:  Thanks for commenting.  I have changed the drums but due to the problems I had above, I am not sure that they are any better.

Hi Andy:  Message received -- I am just not sure that my fix was successful.  I am restricting myself to loops or drum tracks as I don't dare try programing drums until I have had a lot more practice time!  Thanks for listening!!!

Hey Phil:  How are you?  I pulled up the vocal a bit while I was questionably (trying) fixing the drums.  I hope that helps.  Thanks for the suggestions and for listening.

Hi Allan: I always appreciate your insights.  Thanks for the kind words.  I'm afraid my drum fix didn't really handle the problem but I drove myself  looney tunes trying to find or fix something that would work.  I think that I need to recover ;>)    Thanks again!

Hey Steve:  Thanks for the kind words and suggestions.  At the risk of my mental health (lol) I made an attempt to fix the drum but after I talk to my shrink I think that I'll have to give it another try.  Thanks again!!!

Hi J S:  Thanks for listening and taking the time to respond.  Yes, I would be very interested in help with the drums.  Right now I am trying to fix up some old songs that I recorded (very poorly) a while ago.  I have some ideas for new ones down the road and perhaps you could help me out with the drums.

Hi Wookiee:  Thanks for the encouragement.  I tried a drum fix but I have the feeling that I'm going to have to have another go at it.  Thanks again!

Hi Daryl.  Thanks for your comments.  I think what I am going to have to do is keep what works and re-do from scratch those tracks that don't.  I am working on other stuff right now --- so, it might take a bit before I get back to this one.

Thanks to all who responded for your insight!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Freddy, this is one of the coolest grooves I've heard from you.  Forget about the drum track for the moment because that can be fixed whenever, but the important thing is how the vocal and guitar came across.  I really like the idea of the song and your performance sold it to me.  As was noted above, your voice is warm and intimate, and the guitar tone and part fit perfectly.  This is a hit in the waiting.  Way to go!

    All the best,
    Lynn

Hi Makke:  I am glad that you enjoyed it.  I appreciate your listening and thanks for the comments.

Hey Lynn:  Glad to see you back on the forum!  Thank you very much for your encouragement and kind comments.  I have asked Santa for some more drum loops (live recordings) and hopefully I'll be able to find a match for this song.  If so this will get a re-posting.  I really enjoyed the new song that you just posted!

Hey Bapu:  I am very glad that you like it and thanks for commenting.  I really enjoyed the song that the FM posted (In a Perfect World).  Great bass line on that!

Hi Mark:  Thanks for the very kind words.  I very much appreciate the encouragement.  BTW - the cheque is in the mail.   ;>)  Maybe we can do a collaboration soon!

Nice tune. Like others have mentioned, the drums seem to be missing a beat. I love the vibe. Sets the mood.

Thank you John.  Hopefully, if Santa is good to me, I'll get some more drum loops for Christmas and can address this problem.  ;>)
