Musician's T-Shirt

Here's a T-shirt my wife saw in a catalog yesterday.

Musician: Someone who loads $5,000 worth of gear in a car and drives 100 miles to make $50.

A few of my songs

SONAR Platinum, Cakewalk by BandLab, Windows 10, Focusrite Scarlett 6i6.

I'm still stunned by that "make $50" bit.

My first band back in the late 60s billed $125 for a gig, $25 to each of the four of us and $25 to "the band" for common gear, like a PA and mixer. The cost of the gear in my VW ('63 Fender J bass, Fender Bassman, Farfisa Mini, mic, mic stand, cables, etc) was irrelevant. We were gigging. We were meeting girls. We were getting paid for it. Woo hoo!

Wish life was that simple now.

It's an older joke, sir, but it checks out.

it's "funny" because it's true... but at the same time kind of depressing if you are, or ever have been, a gigging musician.

My son's band, Impaled, will be playing a Metal Festival in The Netherlands in 2017 (they live in the San Francisco area). They plan on being profitable since they all get "paid time off" from their day gigs.

Okay... so maybe this has always been part of the joke that I didn't get/notice before but if this is the way it's supposed to be phrased it gets a little funnier with random, nonsensical maths.

5000 / 100 = 50

So, we make $50 per mile?

Cool, I'm gonna start gigging then.

Pfffft! I can remember (barely) owing money due to the bands bar tab.
