Shadowed Time

Hi everyone,
I  have been working on another piano piece.  It is my song for Autumn. It is a bit reflective as I was thinking of my grandmother after my grandfather passed away just over a year ago.  I  am still trying to figure out how to finish it off so it is still a bit of a work in progress.  I would really appreciate any suggestions, thoughts or other feedback that you might be kind enough to give.   As always I  really appreciate the time you take to listen.

Thanks

Lots of feeling, a very good listen!

I listened on headphones and I found the lower register tending to overpower the upper. Do you notice this, or are me 'eadphones crappin' out?

I'd eq some of the lower mids down a bit. If you ran it through an eq analyzer you might see a graph that's pretty tall on any note below middle c . . . worth a check?

great piece, I like the many themes that wander through it.

    cheers,
    -Tom

Lovely, moody composition, John, and very convincingly played.  Lots of feeling went into it, or so it seemed to me.

+1 on the previous comments - the piece has emotion.   Very nice all around.

As far as the ending goes, I'd probably let that last chord ring out, or maybe reprise the first 24 seconds and let that last chord ring out.

Thanks Tom! I don't know very much about mixing but I will check it out. I am not sure I would notice the lower notes overpowering the upper ones. ( I am using some old headphones from my XBox 360 because I accidentally broke my "good ones"). I am glad you liked it and I really appreciate the time you took to listen and the great advice.

    Thanks Again

Thanks for listening and the very kind words J.S. I am really happy that you liked it. I am a bit embarrassed to say that I have no real training and I just play by ear. I have started to try to learn a bit of theory though.

    Thanks Again

John I think you should study.  The talent that you have is one thing, that's set in stone.  But, you need to study these things to know whether what you're producing is original.  Try writing variations.  Pick a theme and do as many variations as you can on a theme.   It's fun!

Thanks for the advice and the encouragement. I have been trying to learn a bit about theory and reading music. I have been busily working with a pianist who wants to perform one of my pieces. That will be quite cool. She has kindly been helping to get the score into an acceptable form. It was and still is a lot of work. She explained some theory to me and has pointed me to some apps and websites. I have been exploring some of them, but I really do have a lot to learn. I am adding dynamics to the score now (using mid velocities as arough guide).

    Thanks again
