A New Sensation Mix Number 2

Well -- my band recorded 12 covers for our demo - this is  the one that is finished mixing

haven't mastered it yet

may change the mix up a bit first

so suggestions are good -

try not to be too mean though ; )

Sounds pretty faithful to the original! I'd say "take the snare drum down a tad" but that wasn't the style, was it? more like "stairwell to heaven"

If you were looking to improve something, the background vocals could be doubled or tripled or chorused or microtuned or all of the above . . . as they are, they are kind of thin sounding to my ears.

I can tell you put in a lot of work here and it's a remarkable rendition. the mix seems very well balanced, nothing really sticks too far out, the bass is nice and controlled. Good job!

Thanks Tom. The Original does have a pretty loud snare happening  ... though maybe not as loud as I have it ......it might be better down a couple of DB's I also agree with you on the background tracks. There is harmony on the original .. I think three .. dont know if were going to get to that ... getting the guys together for practice once a week is hard enough ... then with the recording has been tougher .. we have everything recorded now  though ....just mixing the songs --  maybe a quick vocal session on the lap top after practice we can get the harmonies in there - we'll see   Thank you!

Good work on this. If I may be so bold, I think the bass needs more definition -- I had trouble hearing exactly what's going on down there (Look at Craig Anderton's post about the TS64). And you might want to take another look at the vocal EQ, as it seems a little muffled. And since there is so little instrumental accompaniment, I'd like to hear more rhythm guitar. Best of luck!

Nice cover Mooch.  As for comments, and these may be taste as much as anything else: I'd like to hear a bit more of the bass and less of the snare, which kinda' sounds a little boxey to me.

Good stuff Mooch. I like the snare - it's similar to the original. Bass could come up in the mix though.

Mooch can I ask what the demos for?  Because, just like a resume, you might want to rejigger it depending upon the goals.

We have an expo coming up -- we will have a listing booth set up --  plus we will use it to hand out to clients - and also put on our web site

We actually have a demo all ready but it was recorded into sonar live - and .. well its live and now we want to go for a little better one -

basically its for whatever bands would have a demo for - -- here that's us -- we sound like that and do top fourty 80s songs - you can look at our live videos and or listen to our demo -- or come see us play at  "that bar" -- we usually play some where once a month as it is - you know- it'll be used for ... a "demo"

by the way - this isnt even "mastered yet" this is just a mix - and I am all ready working on Mix two of it from the suggestions - that being said -so I do have a vidion where tyhis mix stands and where I want to take it ... but also ...  we're not looking to be famous rock stars - we're just middle aged guys who get a kick out of playing 80s and its fun -  its covers

Only thing I noticed is that the singer is flat on some of the higher notes.  Otherwise it's pretty good!

I forgot how much i liked INXS.
My only suggestion would be a little OD and slapback delay on the guitar.  Other than that, it's pretty slick.

I dunno Paul. There is something about the drums. Maybe too much pumping. And the kick and snare sond like they were played in different rooms. They are not terrible but that's what grabbed me.

I did listen to mix 2.

I am trying to figure out....................... how long a drummers  legs have to be.......to be able to play a drum set where the kick drum is placed in a different room for crying out loud!!

Overall it sounds pretty good here... the only two mix suggestions I would make would be to add a little edge to the rhythm guitar and perhaps remove some low-mids/mids from the snare/reverb so it reflects more of the highs (less boxy).
