Default MIDI inputs for a new track?
How can I define the default MIDI inputs for a new track? I want to have all devices and omni as the default.

Track templates preserve input settings. Otherwise, toggle the input echo button, it resets input to All Inputs Omni if the track input is set to None.

Thanks for your reply but the latter is not quite true I'm afraid. Toggling the input echo selects all the hardware inputs. I'm using Maschine Mikro MKII and usually need the software input from Maschine VST.

Are you sure about that? 'All Inputs' should include virtual ports as well as physical port drivers. It's more often the case that users complain that tracks are receiving MIDI Out from VSTs that wasn't intended because track inputs have defaulted to All Inputs - Omni.

All inputs includes virtual inputs such as the bundled Virtual Controller and LoopBe1. The Virtual controller because it is hard coded as a device, the latter because it is presented to SONAR as device. Plug-ins are different. For example, if ALL inputs were enabled, synth plug-ins that generate MIDI data would have a feedback loop setup. As it is, it is easy to create a feedback loop with MIDI virtual cables.

Ah, that makes sense scook. Thanks for clearing that out. So manual work or presets it is.

Looks like there's a difference between manually toggling Input Echo on, and having the 'Always Echo Current MIDI Track' option. That latter will set the input to All Inputs - Omni, which includes VSTi ports. Toggling Input Echo on manually individually enables all the driver-based ports but not VSTi 'virtual ports'.

Good to know and thanks for sharing. I should try if that helps my work flow.
