Permanently undock console and browser view

Hi,
How do I Permanently undock console and browser view ?
I use 2 monitors and like the console and browser on the 2nd monitor but it always seems to revert to the dock.
Thanks

What he said... and/or make it the default startup screenset for all your project templates/normal template...

Don't know if you can copy this file to all ur old songs... but everytime u open um, just set it up, lock it, and close it with that screenset active

Just to open the console? Seriously?
I'll just assume that's a joke?

Well, that's the problem. The project I'm working on, I have the console floating but everytime I close it and re-open it gets docked. Maybe it's the "lock it" you guys speak of. What is that please?

I was thinking there was some setting in preferences that I can't find.

Thanks

If like me you have the CV on the second monitor and you save the project with that setup it should open that way.

The project should remember where all open views are. In fact if I close a view then save that project when I open the project and then open the closed view it will open on the monitor I closed it from.

However the original screen set will override what the project should remember and use the screenset's memory. I believe the behavior you describe would be consistent with a locked screenset.

From page 1302 of the manual.
To prevent the current screenset from being modified
1. Make sure the Screenset module is visible in the Control Bar.
2. Click the Screenset menu and select Lock/Unlock Current Screenset.
A padlock icon appears next to the screenset name in the Screenset menu to indicate that the screenset is
locked. To unlock the screenset, select the Lock/Unlock Current Screenset command again.

Best

I for one wish there was a setting in preferences to have no multdock ever. Like before it was thrust upon us.
You gotta be brave to say that around here though.

I have two monitors, and the CV is always on the right-hand laptop monitor in every project, including new ones.  If I need to access Windows Explorer or any other application, I minimize the CV on that monitor.  I am not using a Screenset.  I dragged the Track View to the left-hand monitor and the CV to the right-hand one and Sonar remembered that configuration.

Yea, that was my next question. How to eliminate the multidock. You're not alone.

Yea, it will open that way if I leave the console open on saving. But, if I close it, it gets docked.
I'll look at the screen sets. Thanks.

I was merely confirming that Sonar didn't require a Screenset or any other option to be selected, but I have the CV open all of the time, I don't close it on Save or Exit.  Good luck.

what do you mean a joke ? I was trying to help. but much like the other comments I reply to you, you don't seem to appreciate it. so I will explain it in more detail. and refrain from replying to any more of your comments.

1- Set up the multidock the way you want it (on both monitors)
2- Create a screenset and lock it. this way it takes 1 button press to open your preferred multi monitor set up.
Like John, my project opens in the saved state I leave it in upon save/close/reopen. Good luck.

I don't know about getting rid of the multidock.  I only have 1 monitor so I put CV in the dock and use the "D" key to show/hide multidock.  That way I can quickly switch between TV & CV on a single monitor.

If you leave CV docked and float the multi-dock on the second display it will stay that way without locking screensets, or fiddling with templates.  That's the way I always used it when I was using dual displays.  I still float the MD now, but it's on the same display as the main SONAR window.  I'm not sure about the Browser as I leave it and the Inspector docked left, collapsed until I want to use them.

I agree that it's annoying when you open a view and it goes straight into the MultiDock by default. Most of the time I use Screensets for particular views so there's normally no need for opening and closing views. But it's always a problem when I open V-Vocal or Melodyne. It would be helpful if the user was given the option of setting the default opening for each window. I would want PRV to open in MultiDock because I like to have several PRVs docked in an undocked MultiDock. Staff View too. But everything else I want to see floating.

Okay lets start over then
Are you using a template created in a previous version of Sonar (previous Platinum update I mean)
Sometimes Templates created in older updates / as  newer updates are installed our old Templates can become corrupt.
Which makes sense believe it or not, because as features are added, bugs fixed and settings changed (in newer updates), our older Templates cant find previous settings and may go array.

I live by the Template myself but I try and update them every few updates.
thus keeping them up to date.
I know the templates should work flawless but as we both know, Sonar isn't perfect.

If not using Templates, could be due to a Windows Theme.

Hope this helps.

Re: Permanently undock console and browser view 2016/11/11 14:07:10 (permalink)
Obviously I'm missing something here. But, I don't see why templates would have anything to do with my problem except on new projects? I mean we're talking about project templates, 'normal.tmp', right?.

Anyway, that said, I think I fixed it. Not really clear as to which tweak did it though.
I did find that, ah hah, the console view and the dock are both separately undockable. Well, not really, as the dock doesn't maintain it's undockability.

And yes, then comes the #1 screenset. I think you have to re-save it when making global changes. And, since there is no 'screenset save' button, you have to copy and re-move 2 screensets.

idunno. all pretty wacky.

Thanks

AFAIK, the multidock when instantiated will always dock (its default state), so if you want it left undocked you must never close/exit it (the D hotkey is your friend here to minimize/restore the window size). If you close/exit it, the multidock will always come up docked (mentioned above).

what im trying to say is...do you only have this problem on new projects ?
or projects you used a project template on ?

all good though. if you got it to your liking that's all that matters.

PS your right there is no save button for the screensets, that's why in my first post I suggested "Lock it".
that is basically its save function.

Open a new project, undock everything and save it as the default template.

Yes, this is what I did too way back when, but always with the CV undocked and on that RH monitor.  I never close the CV.
