Sad news. An amazing songwriter and poet. Sadly I never acquired a taste for his voice though. My favourite version of "Hallelujah" was Rufus Wainright's

    I stumbled out of bed
I got ready for the struggle
    I smoked a cigarette
And I tightened up my gut

I said this can't be me,
    Must be my double

    ..and I can't forget (I can't forget)
    I can't forget (I can't forget)
I cant forget but I don't remember what

Before I was a musician and knew what to listen for, the first Cohen song I heard was Everybody Knows. I instantly connected with the mix as much as the song itself, it shifted my musical tastes completely, and led me to the rest of his amazing repertoire.

    RIP Mr Cohen.

He was a truly great writer. If the voice puts you off, I highly recommend Jennifer Warren's Famous Blue Raincoat album. Some of his best songs sung by an amazing singer.

I find this to be in very poor taste to the memory of the late and great Leonard Cohen.

Just my opinion which I'm entitled to as is yours, right?

I think this is a much more fitting tribute to the man...

Cohen was a truly great artist, who happened to be working in the realm of pop music. Although frecuently misunderstood (I've heard it played in church), Halleluja is one of the greatest pop songs ever; my list would include Brian Wilson's God Only Knows, KD Lang's Constant Craving, Paul Mcartney's Yesterday, and Paul Simon's Bridge Over Troubled Water. I note that the greatest and most powerful songs (and musical works of all types for that matter) tend to have a positive spiritual message.

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (Official Video)

Jeff Buckley apparently internalized this song to the point where it sounds as though he is giving you absolutely everything he has in this performance. A truly awesome marriage of performance and composition.

    Silence is so accurate
