Take lane overlap question

I have 2 take lanes of a midi track.  If I slide a midi clip in the top lane over a midi clip in the bottom lane, it cuts out the overlapping portion in the bottom lane.  How can I avoid this?  Can't they both overlap in the same time frame?

Yup, that works.  I've been trying to figure that out for quite a while.  I never would have connected that option to take lanes.  Thanks scook.
