Slate Trigger Users - How Useful is it?
I see Steven Slate Trigger Platinum is on sale for $79 and it looks like a really cool plugin. However, most of my drumming uses BFD 3 or EZD, or Superior Drummer 2. I may have an opportunity to do some recording and/or mixing of real drums for a friend next spring and this looks very useful for that, but I'm just curious if it would be any good for beefing up my tracks using what are already sampled drums. Was thinking layering in an extra sample kick and snare might sound good, but I can kind of do that already with BFD samples. Anybody using it that way?

It's always been best, for me, on live drums where it was easier to dial in a sound that I wanted.
That said, I have used it on tracks there audio created from a sampler after the fact. YMMV.

Any idea how it compares to Drumagog?
I have both. With the exception that Drumagog 5 can actually host another Drum Player as it's sound source, I'd recommend Trigger over Drumagog.

Thanks Bapu. In doing further research I started checking out SSD 4 and ended up going for the half price deal on that and the CLA expansion instead. I'm not sure I'll be doing any recording of real drums any time soon, but if I do I'll probably spring for Trigger then. Not a bad Black Friday after all.

Thanks for fueling the GAS. What can you tell me about the differences in them? I couldn't find a lot of demos of them. At this point everything on their site is geared toward the big sale and they don't have any demos up. From Googling I found more demos of CLA and liked what I heard, but all I saw was one YouTube vid talking about the making of the Terry Date expansion. Not a lot of demos on how they sound. I'm a child of the 80's and geared toward rock and metal mostly, although I have been getting more into strange electronic stuff now and again.

CLA is great for the 80s type BIG STADIUM ROCK. But for in your face some of the others are the shizzz for sure. No need to rush into it but of course at half off they'll likely never be any cheaper. I believe Steven once said that Blackbird (or was it Bendeth?) was the best drum samples he has ever heard.

Thanks again. Did a little more searching and found a comparison of CLA and Blackbird. Between those, I prefer CLA, so I'm glad that's the one I picked up for a starter. I'll probably wait for other deals to pick up any more at this point. I think I tapped out my Black Friday budget with what I have and a couple other items I picked up. Now I just need to get up from the chair in the studio and see if I can still move.
