Loud POP and master VU meter pegged -back

I'm getting a very loud pop and noticed that my master out VU is pegged when this happens but I get no sound.  I originally thought this was a Izotope Neutron issue, however, it happens even if I remove the Neutron plug from the project.  In fact, I even removed all of the plugs, except Sonitus reverb, and still have the issue.  I've seen that other folks are having the same issue but I do not see any solution as of yet.

So, it goes like this:
1) Hit play
2) Loud pop
3) Notice that Master out VU is pegged
4) Transport continues but no sound
5) After stopping and starting playback several times the pop sound and meter pegged goes away and all is well for a while
6) After a while the same issue may occur again
7) Sometimes I have to close and reopen the project before it will playback correctly
8) I have the latest Motu 828mkii driver...installed yesterday...same issue.

Help please

    Hi Al,

Make a copy of the project (for test purposes).
    Completely remove all virtual instruments.
    Does the issue persist?
    I'm guessing it won't.
If not, try adding extra plugin buffers.

    Best Regards,

Same thing happens to me.  I thought it was the VST FX in my master chain. Also the VU meter disappears

I had something similar happening and someone suggested that I disable "64 Bit Double Precision Engine", under Driver Settings in preferences.  This worked for me, but it's not an optimal solution.  Apparently, It's a known issue.

Try disabling it, and see if it helps.

I disabled the 64 bit double precision engine a long time ago so that's not the cause.

But, with some great help from Jim Roseberry as usual, I was able to "resolve" the issue.  I still don't know what really caused the problem in the first place.  Anyway, here is what we ended up doing to get the projects working correctly again.

"I decided to opened up the original project to experiment with the Sonitus plugs.  Here is my experiences:

I played the original project to make sure the issue was still there and immediately got the pop and meter pegged as soon as I hit play.

I left all of the virtual instruments in place.

I deleted the Sonitus reverb from the reverb buss and got a loud pop.  I then hit play and it still makes a pop and pegs meter

I then deleted the Sonitus delay from the delay buss and got a loud pop.  I then hit play and…no pop and no meter peg.  The song plays normally

I reinstated the Sonitus plugs where I originally had them and…no issues.  The project plays normally.

I saved the project under a different name and opened the newly named project.  The issue has been corrected.  The project plays without any issues.

As a side note, all of my recent projects are created from a master template that I created which includes the Sonitus plugs.  Whatever the problem was/is it was copied to all of the projects."

It's something to do with the CPU processing.  After I enabled the VST load balancing, it stopped, but only for a day then it started again...

Wasn't there some issue where opening older templates in new projects caused some kind of problem...I don't remember the specifics, sorry.

OK...I thought this was solved but...NO!

I ran into the same issue last night and removed the Sonitus reverb and the problem did NOT go away.

So, this time I decided to disable all FX globally with the FX button in the control bar.  That cleared up the problem immediately.  When I turn the global FX on again the issue DOES NOT come back.  At this point I don't know if there is a specific plugin that is causing the problem or if there is a problem with the FX routing/bins.
