    Nice find! I'll have to place these to my drive upgrade list.

    That is, unless Seagate responds and raises (or should I say, lowers) the bar to the next notch. But from the looks of it, they've got their work cut out for them. They'll have to play more than catchup now!

    I have two of the 160G Samsungs, one in a fanless FW box, and one in my DAW together with an older barracuda. Had them for a couple of months - I'm knocked out by how quiet they are.

    The FW external drive was virtually silent even when it was on the desk next to me and my laptop - I had to turn my head and lean towards it to hear if it was on. Now it is installed in a 4u rack case along with my FW1814 and other stuff for location recording.

    Any internal HD can be made quieter by putting them in silent enclosures - my Maxtors can't be heard in their cases.
