Would love some feedback
Hi everybody, Just finished this tune and would love some feedback. There's a lot going on here so this was a big deal for me. Any ideas before I put it in the can? Thanks! https://soundcloud.com/kampfirekowboys/spin-around

Not a bad tune man, The 1st thing that jumps out for me is that (for me anyhow) it was a little odd that there is only one guitar and it is panned hard right. Then the guitar lead comes in (centered as it should be) but seems a little low in the mix for a lead. The bass guitar has a bit much of that paper-honk sound in it. (makes it sound like it was a cheaper amp cranked up and just beating up the speaker) Might try boosting a bell curve and fish around near like 400-700 hz and when it sounds like crap stop, and take that boost and make it a dip there. Pull some of that out. Just my 2 cents bud. Hope that helps!

Hi Chuck Fun song and some nice playing on this. The mix sounds pretty close but the final product sounds over compressed/limited to the point where there is audible distortion. Did you master the track after mix down?

Thanks for the feedback. I already gave the lead guitar a nudge. Chuck... I agree with you on the bass but I had a real problem with as far as eq is concerned. I'll give that another try. Also, your opinion, where the best place to put that guitar? I was going to clone, nudge and run each left/Right but that seems too much for this song Daryl.. I did use a Master FX chain called "smooth" and now I think that was a mistake. I'll go back and listen to that as well.. Thanks again! Tom.

Maybe try like 50-60% right, so that there is still some of the guitar in the other channel. I understand the issue as you do have a lot of brass in this song too in some areas.

Here's a new mix. I panned the guitar a bit right and guitar lead a bit left. I think I fixed the bass but not sure. Is it too loud in the mix now? Also deleted FX on the main bus and placed a more subtle compression on the main. Thanks man... https://soundcloud.com/kampfirekowboys/spin-around

This is a super ambitious mix! You have a lot of elements going all at once, which is just fine! I can hear them all! But in a plentiful mix, is often helpful to dry things up a tad. If everybody has stairwell reverb on them, x 6 things at once, it can get pretty washy. Reverb is "seasoned to taste" but I'd start with the bass - do you have reverb on that? Something is adding a lot of boomy-ness to the below 100hz area. The snare could use less reverb, and a little less on the vocals as well. that's just my seasoning :) That being said, the fun comment is, it's a very fun song, and the performances, including the vocal, are all really quite good. Great energy. Just for fun, you might make a "dry" version and see if you like it better. "Drain the Swamp!" I think somebody said once. cheers, -Tom

Thanks Tom. No reverb on the bass but I'll check the rest of the mix. Thanks!

Hi TomC, I suggest you edit your original post and put the new link in there. otherwise people may pass it by when they click on the original link and get "This track was not found. Maybe it has been removed " I agree with ChuckC and emerald soul - the bass needs some filtering in the low mids. I also think you've got way too much verb on the vocals, they sound like they're in a completely different space from everything else. and the horn sound (sax?) in the left channel is "buzzy sounding" not sure how else to describe it, but I'd put SPAN on it and find the offending frequency culprit(s) and cut them down. great song, mix just needs some more work!

Thanks Beagle. I did take some reverb off the mix and changed all the links above. The bass has always been a problem for me. this is a Fender Precision bass going directly in. My last few tunes I used a midi bass. Maybe I should go back to that. This the latest mix. FYI. At some point I'm going to release a full length CD and then I'll have them professionally mastered. Thanks everybody! Tom. https://soundcloud.com/ka...boys/spin-around

Not much to add to the mix comments above... but I liked the song so here I am. Cool blues-rock vibe happening with a nice side-dish of party atmosphere. Sounds like it would make a great live club song.

Hey, it made me feel good. In the Sennheisers it sounded really good. Mixed well. I didn't notice the panned guitar thing. This is really nice. I would love to sit in a club and hear this. Some really nice guitar work! Merry Christmas!
