Midi Keyboard/Control surface isn't listing under control surfaces any more.

Hello forum: I did a fresh install of Sonar X1 PE on a Lenovo laptop, and saw my M-Audio Keystation 49es midi keyboard listed under control surface. But noticed that my audio interface (Scarlett 2i2 1st Generation) didn't show, so I unplugged both usb cables and switched them around while sonar was running. My interface now showed up, but then the keyboard didn't. So I closed sonar and reopened it thinking the usb port might be bad, and switched the usb cables to their origina place, but the interface was still working, while the midi keyboard didn't. Searched the Driver for the keyboard but the M-Audio website says the keyboard doesn't need a driver. So now I'm stuck.

After plugging in both your devices, go to DEVICE MANAGERinWindows and expand your USB DEVICES tree. Look for an UNKNOWN DEVICE, indicated by an exclamation point. Uninstall the device...Restart your computer and try plugging in the device again...

your Scarlett interface IS NOT a control surface. Control Surfaces are devices that can control SONAR via their on board controls (Like knobs, faders, and Transport Controls).

MIDI ports, like the one on your Scarlett Interface, will be listed under MIDI/DEVICES in PREFERENCES. Make sure they are enabled via the check box next to the appropriate device.

I followed your advice and the keyboard still doesn't show under control surface, and I clicked on the yellow triangle warning sing under device manager, and it says it can't find a driver. I click on update driver, but it can't find one. And like I said. M-Audio doesn't seem to have one because it supposedly is plug and play and doesn't need one.

I switched the midi keyboard to a third usb port, uninstalled from device manager again, and windows did a really long update, and when I woke up this morning, I plugged and unplugged it a few times, and now it works. Thanks for leading me along the right path music man :D
