Tampa is a great port from which to embark. It's ez p-z. Oh and American airlines has a flight that goes through dallas that is only 5 1/2 hours from pdx.

The QE2 docked there awhile ago . The queen actually met the mayor of Tampa who was a classless wench (she didn't curtsy). The queen was very gracious, but her nose was twitching in disgust.

Actually, the correct answer is the Fringe (who, apparently, only have one self-titled album out). I guess I'll have to go check it out. If I like it, then it goes on my "to get" list and I'll have something from all the artists on the bill! I think I'll make a playlist from the bands and let it go for awhile. Cheaper than those prices!

I need to see some gigs next year (apart from BBT). Everywhere's a long way from here though. The last time we had 'big names' in town it was Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham (they were excellent)

It was a long time ago I saw Aly Bain when he was in Boys of the Lough. That was in a town hall in Friesland back in the early 80's when I was living in the Netherlands. We do get a few acts here in Devon, Tavistock Wharf is the a good venue, but often Bristol, 100 miles away is the closest many bands are likely to come.

Ah yes, when I lived near Cirencester, Bristol Colston Hall or the Hippodrome was a 45 minute drive away. Saw some great bands there. One stand out was Paul Rodgers in '96, he had a superb band back then (Geoff Whitehorn, Jaz Lochrie & Jim Copley)

Paul Rogers and Paul Carrack are two of the best rock voices ever.

Good to see Dave Kerzner on the bill. I contributed to his Kickstarter campaign. You may know Dave ("Squids" on KVR) as the founder of Sonic Reality. If you were ever a SampleTank2 or Neil Peart Drums user, you have some of Dave's samples in your own songs.

Hi, Steve Hackett, Patrick Moraz, Spock's Beard, Anglagard, Curved Air and Focus I wouldn't mind putting these on my schedule, but I will pass, I'm sure. I would probably spend my time doing some interviews, and spend time with Anglagard, and probably Curved Air. Anglagard was originally inspired by King Crimson, and their material is very strong, and moody, and well done. Curved Air, these days, is all Sonja I think. Focus, is just about all Thiij Van Leer, who is an exceptional performer, and one of those folks that gets crazier and better as he gets older, and he will probably teach everyone how to yodel properly, and invite Bapu to join the chorus if he shows up! Spock's Beard, should be an exceptional show. They are very tight and well rehearsed. Steve Hackett is exceptional and highly recommended, and I'm guessing he will do a lot of Genesis material. Patrick Moraz, I'm not sure, but he should make a very nice show with or without a band. Kansas, I'm sorry to say has never turned me on beyonf one song. John Wetton is an insteresting case, as he has been in some incredible bands, and even in the current KC line up ... which two pieces stand out the most? Red and Starless and guess who was the bass player then? I had heard that he had been pretty sick recently, so hopefully he is OK for one more hurrah! The others, I have not given a good listen as yet. I'm due for a trip to somewhere and doing something like this ... I owe it to myself, specially as there is nothing in the West Coast that promotes "progressive" and that leaves things a bit on the dry side around here. However, I have not been well lately with some really bad high blood pressure issues and am trying to get those under control, and it can get bad enough that I'm even scared of taking a small trip to Fry's for a treat or two (45 minutes each way from Vancouver). But insanity has never been right around the corner for me, so who knows ... it would be nice to have someone with, though and I don't have anyone.

I would like to go, for example, if one of those really had something amazing, for me to see. Of all the folks I would like to see, that I sincerely doubt I will ever see, it would be the likes of Mike Oldfield, Vangelis, Ryuichi Sakamoto (he can do just solo piano just as good ... check out the stuff on the tube!!! Totally awesome!), Peter Hammill and I wouldn't mind just him a piano and a guitar alone, and he can tell stories in between which might bore some folks, but helps understand his words and poetry that much more. Maybe bring out Kraftwerk, the new version of Tangerine Copy Dream, Guru Guru if Mani can still drum, as he is still at it and thrashing, too! One could even bring Kraan along, for some nice jazzy jams. How about a Roy Harper, since he can just sit, say hello and play and sing all night, or until he has another drink ... which I think he was told to quit a while back! Of interest, also, would be Manfred Mann's Earth Band or any part of it. Maybe even a Roxy Music get together before they all are so old they can not stand up anymore. For some Americans, it's hard to think of a lot of them, although I would like to get Grace Slick alone with a piano and just her. She doesn't have to sing rabbit or rats or crap ... just anything she wants, and let her tell stories with it. But she would have to be done as a surprise, sort of in the bar by herself, with no fuss or advertising, and surprise everyone silly. I know she has stated she does not want to be an old rock'n'roll cow singing the same old song at 65, but to me, that's almost like saying that there is no person behind it, and there is, and a lot of her work stands out. Another couple of people that should be invited for speaking appearances in these things, would be a couple of names from the West Coast radio history. One for sure would be Jim Ladd, although he is not exactly "progressive", but his story of Radio Kaos is loud and clear and he is still around. The other two would be Archie Patterson (Eurock) since so few people know and have written about so much music over the years as he has. And lastly, Guy Guden of Space Pirate Radio fame, whose show still is the standard no one can ever possibly reach or meet in terms of quality, quantity, and everything else from Europe and the rest of the world. Guy, has amazing stories, and his radio time (25 years plus) is enough to give someone several hernias, but there are funny things along the way also, he can easily play with. He can, most likely, fill out 2 hours as easily as he can 5 or 6 hours in his shows at the time ... on a COMMERCIAL radio station, too!
