VS700 ADAT Out to UFX ADAT In- Can't Figure it Out
I understand this isn't the proper forum for this but I need an answer pretty quickly and this one gets the most attention. I want to use the preamps on my VS700 as extras. I'm currently using a Fireface UFX. I have the VS Editor software installed and a USB cable hooked to the PC. The UFX is also working properly on this same PC. I plug an ADAT cable into the ADAT out on the VS and into the ADAT1 input on the UFX. I get a signal on the VS from the mic but it's not appearing on the ADAT input of the UFX. I thought it should be a simple operation but no matter what settings I use on the VS Editor or the UFX I can't get it to work.
I started at 88.2 (all devices- and the sample rate I usually record with) and then tried 48 (all devices) and no luck getting the UFX to see the VS ADAT outputs.
Anyway, if someone has synced these two devices already and can give me an idea of what I'm (apparently) not doing, I'd much appreciate it. Thanks in Advance

Hi,. I don't know if this is related, or product specific.I have the same situation with my Tascam FW 1884. I get signal into the device, but it is not shown in my RME totalmix. In my case, it seems like the FW 1884 cannot work as a standalone preamp. I need another dedicated device for that.. Have no idea if this is relevant or not. But it could be. All the best.

Thanks Zargg. I've tried everything but using Word Clock cables. The UFX doesn't have a coax digital output which could be the issue getting the digital signal to the VS. But I have tried the AES input on the VS from the AES output on the UFX and still can't get it to work. I thought it would be a nice option to use the mic pre's in the VS as extras.

I'm pretty sure that ADAT doesn't support higher than 48k.

wrong. ADAT definitely goes to 96kHz, but number of available channels are half.

I have successfully used a combination of VS-700 and OctoPre mic preamp connected via ADAT for a long time (@44.1 kHz and @96kHz, 44.1 giving 8 channels, 96 only 4). However, here the VS700 was the receiving interface. The way I understand the OP what you are trying to do is the opposite, i.e. VS-700 should only act as preamp and send out via ADAT, but I believe you have a conceptual problem here as there is no direct routing to DIGITAL 2 (i.e. ADAT) in VS-700 (see DIRECT MIX OUTPUT). You could route mic in to DIGITAL 1 (i.e. COAX) but there is no option for DIGITAL 2 in the VS-700 I/O editor. Hence I believe you can only use the ADAT OUT if VS700 is the audio interface used in Sonar and DIGITAL 2 (ADAT) outs are directly output to in Sonar./ It tried to insert a screenshot I found on the www but it does not work ... https://www.google.at/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hoardhunters.com%2FGary%2FX3%2FX_mix.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.cakewalk.com%2FAnyone-used-X3-with-the-v700-yet-m2898938.aspx&docid=sbLLdLbZwWIMfM&tbnid=BQ8rXVdinkDmcM%3A&vet=1&w=993&h=500&client=firefox-b&bih=1091&biw=1920&ved=0ahUKEwjIrqCOxtrQAhVLJcAKHYfQDpsQMwg_KBgwGA&iact=mrc&uact=8

I believe Rob is right. There are no outputs for digital 2 (the ADAT outs) in the VS editor. And yes, I wanted to use the VS as the 'second' set of mic pres to the UFX. So I'm suspecting it isn't doable. Thanks for everyone's response.

Do you have the VS700 set as the clock source in the UFX?
