No Midi Sound

I seem to be having a lot of problems these days with cakewalk. Crashes almost every time I start it and just have to keep trying until I get it going. Now I can't get any sound via a synth from external midi source such a an alesis Q25 midi controller or my Roland controller or keyboard. I can't even get the virtual controller to work. I double checked the midi in on the I/O settings to makes sure everything is correct and selected but no sound. If I install the string synth which has a virtual keyboard it works. I can also write notes into my midi track and synths work. Just will not work from an outside source. I know it is selected on the midi in and I set to Midi Omni. I have never had a problem with this. Anyone have any ideas?

The instability is probalby due to this interoperability issue between some plugins and a recent Win 10 update; Bakers are working on it:

For the MIDI issue, try Inserting the synth as separate MIDI and Synth Audio tracks, force Input Echo on the MIDI track, and make sure it's passing live MIDI input to the output (MIDI meters are always output meters, even when armed for recording).

If not, check the MIDI I/O activity monitor that SONAR adds to the Notification Area (a.k.a. 'System Tray') of the Taskbar that monitors the interface port drivers (enabled by default in Preferences > Customization > Display). If there's no activity there, then there's a hardware/firmware/driver/configuration problem with the interface or your controller.

If it's passing MIDI, and the synth isn't responding, then check channel assignments, ensure you're playing within the pitch range of the instrument, Volume/Expression/Modulation controllers are not zeroed, etc.

Sense learning the crash problem I went ahead an up dated to 2016.11 and behold it fixed my midi problem. I think the crash problem I associated with the ASIO driver. Run any other driver such as WDM it never happens. I hope it's fixed soon.

Thanks you your response. And I'm glad they are working on the crashing issue.
