Issues recording midi with my ekit

Hey everyone - this is my first time posting in here and it's pretty fair to say I'm still a noob when it comes to using Sonar. Been using it for a couple weeks now and still figuring stuff out.

So my issue is this. I connect my Alesis DM10 Electric kit to Sonar/Addictive Drums 2. Midi inputs are being registered when I hit the drums. Outputs all look good as well. When I go to arm the channel to record, nothing gets recorded. Now, this is only happening when I work on an existing project my guitarist has been sending. This is not the issue on a new project.

I even had someone who's quite familiar with Sonar try to resolve the issue, but he couldn't find it. He suggested I come here and see if there is anyone who can help. Any support is appreciated. Thanks!

Are you using a "simple" instrument track?

I have a dm10 too (nice bit of kit) and because I'm stoopid I guess, could not get simple instrument tracks to work. The way I do it is insert a midi track route it's output to the synth desired. Then you record the midi track as you play. This is the old way of doing it but I'm old and in the way so that's what I do anymore. Someday when I have the time to be frustrated I'll try a simple instrument track again.

It's possible, I'll have to check.

How are you setting up to record ?
Are you using the Insert Synth / Addictive drums 2 ?

Then you will see a properties window pop up.
What are you choosing ?

A little more info and we can track this down.

Windows 8.1 X64 Sonar Platinum x64
Custom built: Asrock z97 1150 - Intel I7 4790k - 16GB corsair DDR3 1600 - PNY SSD 220GB
Focusrite Saffire 18I8 - Mackie Control
