Nor me, never have been. I'll add Jimmy Page, horrible tones, beyond sloppy live. (I'm dead...)

I was given tickets to go and see Clapton some time ago, so I went along all excited........most tedious gig I have ever been to - very disappointing.

I guess the only "rating" I've ever done was with my wallet. Base on that I'd say I've enjoyed both those guitarist very much. Listening and learning from them. That's all that really mattered. Still is I reckon.

I never really liked Clapton. As I heard someone else say once, Armani suit + Strat = yawn.

Oh, be still my heart, every year, PBS puts on the Last Waltz and every year I record and watch and am amazed...but to each his own. I also think Eric Clapton on Steve Stills' Go Back Home is unbelievable, but EC has never been on my main "to watch" list, although, the George Harrison tribute and the Crossroads series are really a good watch :)

I know a few guitarists who would add Carlos Santana to this list. Personally, I don't care about who's over or under rated. I use a much simpler system similar to Michael's. If I like the music, I buy it and listen to it. If I don't, I may still buy it ('cause that's my chosen "sickness" - LOL), but I won't listen to it much.

He's bobbing up and down in a dinghy trying to catch up with the prog-rock cruise ship, to tell them all they're not as good as Amon Duul 2.

I have bought a lot of music just because I needed to learn the tune. One does what they have to in cover bands...and appear to enjoy it. I didn't have a problem with the 3 mentioned. They were leaders, innovators for decades and I enjoyed trying to copy them. Wasn't so easy for me...sound was about all one had to go with. Good ears and music theory sure did help.

My favorite! Especially for his tones and the way he combines them. There's no denying the sloppiness though. Clapton - indifferent is the word I suppose. I really like some material, most of it I don't care for. Santana I can't stand. He gives me toothaches (a bit like Kirk Hammett does at times). It's like somebody scraping their fingers on a chalkboard - the tone, the notes, the bending, the vibrato - everything! Keith Richards - well, same as the Stones, really. I do appreciate that they have their place in history and there is a bunch of songs I really, really like, true gems, but considering their entire catalog, you could say that those songs are exceptions. I just don't get the Stones (nor The Who, by the way).

He's bobbing up and down in a dinghy trying to catch up with the prog-rock cruise ship, to tell them all they're not as good as Amon Duul 2.
That ship has sunk a long time ago, specially now that Edgar Froese has left us and the Tangerine Dream folks ripped us off for some autobiography that does not exist! AD2 had some great things, but musically, it is really difficult to say that one thing is better than the other, since they are all great and up there. It's just a shame that folks can only make fun of something they have not heard twice, to be able to make a nice judgement on the pieces. AD2's first 5 albums, still rival anybody's in total quality and stupendous material and awesome work all around. And as their guitarist John Weinzierl says in an interview, "we were not into the rock scene, we mostly used classical ideas and concepts for our music" ... and that was quite loud and clear on the long cuts. As far as over rated, I really can not say that anyone is. They all do different things and do so well, and deserve the credit for it. So, anyone telling me that the guitarist (or two) in the CHB is over rated, I will gladly state ... nothing! Over rated, is a state of mind. And it lacks feeling!
Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!
