Project Audio Files
Was just realizing that if I delete a track is does not remove it from the audio folder. I think that means that I have gigabytes of unused audio files. How are we supposed to clean that up? tia Rafone

I'm not at my DAW right now, but if you open the project there should be an option somewhere to "Clean Audio Folder." That gives you a list of audio files no longer being used, and an option to delete them.

I have tried Clean Audio Folder with mixed results. I think the best way is to simply open up each project in turn, do a "Save As" to a different location and make sure "Copy Audio With Project" is ticked. Once you've done this you can safely delete the original folder. Then you can, if you want, move your newly copied (and reduced in size) projects back to their original locations.

This is also what I have got in the habit of doing. Pretty much the same as you are describing, I just save as >>>create a new folder with an adjusted ending on the name i.e. name + 1,2,3,A,B,C etc. I never have the need to move folder back to original destination, I just delete old folder. That's just my method. Probably different ways to skin this cat, I have just found this to be the easiest and most solid for me.

+1 to Jonesey's advice. But I'll add best you copy everything to a back up drive first. You could use the "save as" to copy to the back up drive too. Then start deleting the old files. Nobody ever said houskeeping was easy. Myself I don't worry too much anymore as with the storage we now have I never even come close to running out of room.

+2 to Jonesey's method. A heavily-edited project can accumulate an awful lot of obscurely-named files. Too many to keep track of. I don't trust the CAF utility, but I do trust the project file to know exactly what it needs.

If you read lots of recent posts, you can see some have had trouble because of saving multiple versions of projects that refer to the same audio files. If a project gets saved in a different folder, there are now multiple folders that need to be scanned for files in use. That's the major reason CWAF scans all the folders.
