solved! can't create new projects in the C:\Cakewalk Projects

i recently purchased sonar studio and installed it with command center
i previously had installed sonal platinum with command center
even though i am admin on the machine in question and i run sonar home studio as admin
using the getting started instructions @
Tutorial 1 - Creating, playing, and saving projects ► Creating a new project i am unable to save Tutorial 1 to the C:\Cakewalk Projects directory in either sonar home studio or platinum ??
i get no error message
i had previously been able to save platinum projects there

i am able to save to an external hard drive  with either sonar home studio or platinum

i check permissions on the C:\Cakewalk Projects admins have full control
ideas??

thanks

thanks for the replys
my error
after choosing a template and assigning a filename clicking ok brought up the chosen template
i then clicked file close and there was no save not wise but i thought it would save or offer to save what i did so far
doing a ctrl-s and then clicking file close did cause the project to be saved at that state
a long time ago somone came up with BOK bozo at keyboard  guilty as charged

Click P for Preferences, select File > Folder Locations

The first entry, Project Files tells you where the default path is - change it if necessary.
If it's already set to C:\Cakewalk Projects, come back and we'll try something else

In general a running program inherits its permissions from the account that it runs under, and can read and write to any location that account can access. Running "as Administrator" changes that, so that the program is now limited to access at locations where Administrator has permissions.  As odd as it sounds, if you are running a program "as administrator" you are not running it as a member of the administrator's group. In other words granting access/permissions/ownership to an account that is a member of the Administrators Group (what you are calling an administrator account) does not grant it to the hidden account named "Administrator," (without an S)  which has its own identity. When you run a program "as administrator" it is running under this "Administrator," (without an S) set of permissions, not the permissions of a regular member of the Administrator's Group.

When you right click on the folder in which your "run as administrator" program is trying to save something and look under the security tab, you probably will find that the Administrators Group  then in parentheses (Your computer name\Administators) has permissions, but not the name Administrator followed by parentheses (your computername\Administrator). The difference between Administratorand Administrator is the key. You can try to add Administrator (without the s) as a name to grant permissions at this point to the folder. Or you can just stop running your program "as administrator" and it will have the permissions granted to other members of the Administrators Group if you are running it from a logon to an account in the Administrators Group.

It is rarely necessary to run "as administrator" or even logged in to an account in the Administrators Group? Ideally. since any malware that starts to run while you are logged in to an Administrators Group account gets full permissions to alter the system that that group has, you would want to only log on to a user account for normal use, including your DAW. Mlaware launching under a user account is limited in the damage it can do.
