Projects do not fully open??

Having trouble opening projects. Thinned it down to a single track project with only one take lane. No effects , no frills. The projects open, shows the bar above 'opening files' , GUI loads and the cursor just spins and spins for hours. Using SPlat x86 on my grossly sub optimal laptop with Win7, but have had no trouble in the past. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

    Addendum, I have tried saving a plain empty copy of my default templet that always loads at startup, no audio, nothing done to it other than to save it as either a cwp or a cwb and neither will open, the cursor just spins and spins. No 'not responding' statements up have been noted either. Just odd. (And just a bit aggravating...)
