Easiest way to convert takes to tracks?

Can anyone please reply as to if there is an easy way to select and paste multiple takes into their own separate tracks?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure I totally understand your question. Have you looked at the documentation on Take lanes ?
     http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=NewFeatures.022.html
Copy and paste between Take lanes
You can copy and paste from any Take lane to any other Take lane. The lanes show active state by highlighting the background of the name control.

    1. Select the clips you want to copy, then go to Edit > Copy (or press CTRL+C).
    2. Select the Take lane you want to paste the clips to, then go to Edit > Paste (or press CTRL+V). The data is pasted at the Now time.

You can also select multiple takes one at a time by holding CNTRL and clicking on them.
Or holding down the right mouse key and Lasso/dragging around them.

Thank you very much Chuck, that tip is useful when pasting within take lanes but I need to take a number of takes and convert them to tracks, because tracks have more processing advantages.

I know I can create an audio track and hold shift and drag a take into the track.

I can also select multiple takes at once.

For instance, I can select about 15 take lanes and drag and drop them onto a track and it creates 15 take lanes in that track.

What I need (to save time) is for cakewalk to copy all 15 takes lanes and paste a separate audio track for each take lane.

    thx :)

I don't think there's a way to tell a Take Lane it's a track without dragging it to a track. Take Lanes are optimized for comping, so it doesn't anticipate wanting to have separate processing on different takes but assumes the takes will be combined into a single track.

The only other option I can think of is to clone the track multiple times, then delete all but one take lane from each clone. Don't know if it would be faster than Shift+Drag...if you try it, let us know.

Thank you Anderton, I already thought about the clone option but nice you wrote it out here.

Oh but if there was a select all option then bounce to multiple track(s) option.

Quite often takes are harmony and/or adlib takes and they need to be moved to their own tracks.

I have this happen a lot, this would be a nice feature to add into the program. :)

Rex, if its any consolation, I think (I read on the main Cakewalk page) they are still improving Take lanes (more improvements to come in the near future I believe).  Theres a few things I would like to see as well like a better feature for house cleaning. For example: rather than open a new lane every time, filing up some of the unused space on previous lanes. I know there is an easy work around but it still would be nice.

Thank you Chucke for your comment.

I know what you mean about Sonar recording creating a lot of takes. I would think optimally that unless there is no clips on a take from that time on then that take should accommodate new recorded material.

The last update addressed some of this, I think I did notice some attempts at take consolidation.

Each update the skylight interface becomes even better. Cakewalk is a really great DAW! :)

This is kind of useless advice at this point but whenever I track vocals I prep like six to eight tracks so while we're working if they have a harmony idea or ad lib I can quickly switch and name the new track to whatever they're doing.

This ^^^ is great advise. I do the same thing.

To the OP: When a harmony line or add lib comes in to your head, there's no time to fiddle around with a take lane. Keep other tracks prepped and ready to go as SanderXpander suggests.
It the fastest way I know of. typically 4 clicks.
(turn off input echo+record on existing Vox Trk 1/ Turn on input echo+record on prepped Vox Trk 2).

I am not afraid to admit it, but I am not really a huge fan of Take lanes, not because of their functionality but more because of the "Perfect take" aspect of it. Needling vocal lines to death searching for the best take can suck the inspiration right out of a mix.
With that said, there are times I rely on Take lanes. On difficult passages, you know the type of things...
"If you cant do it in one take then you shouldn't do it at all".  Oh ya im guilty of that.

It is a great tool but much like Melodyne can be over done.
take SanderXpanders advise though, Prep some extra Vocal tracks instead of Take lanes.
Its basically the still the same amount of CPU being used (run a send to a bus for FX ) And easier to manage in my opinion.
