Question for RME users

So I had an issue with 2016.12 and got to looking at all my settings.
Are we (RME users) supposed to check the "Enable MMCSS for ASIO" box?

I assume that "Use MMCSS" is a SONAR "default" setting.

What are you using?

TIA,

T

Enable MMCSS for ASIO activates support with higher priority for the ASIO driver.

Enable MMCSS for ASIO activates support with higher priority for the ASIO driver. Note: At this
time, activating this option seems to be useful only with the latest Cubase/Nuendo at higher
load. With other software this option can decrease performance. The change becomes active
after an ASIO reset. Therefore it is easy to quickly check which setting works better.

I seem to recall Sonar identifying itself as using MMCSS when MMCSS was introduced in Windows Vista.

Sonar Platinum 64bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, I7 3770K Ivybridge, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte Z77-D3H m/board,
ATI 7750 graphics+ 1GB RAM, 2xIntel 520 series 220GB SSDs, 1 TB Samsung F3 + 1 TB WD HDDs, Seasonic fanless 460W psu, RME Fireface UFX, Focusrite Octopre.
Assorted real synths, guitars, mandolins, diatonic accordions, percussion, fx and other stuff.

So Bat are you checking the MMCSS box both in SONAR and the RME?
You're running Sonar 6, I'm guessing that MMCSS is not an option back that far.

Yes reading the manual did help and thanks for that.
I do recall the Cubase Nuendo wording from the manual, its been awhile since I install UFX and the Babyface.
I'll do a little testing and report back.
or not...

I don't know if the stated recommendation by RME to enable MMCSS only when using Cubase/Nuendo is still valid, but at least they didn't remove that passage from the manuals of their recent interfaces.

But it could be an oversight (many aspects in the manuals are shared across multiple interfaces and have not been changed in years - maybe because there is no need to change...)

I can only speak about my own experience and I never had any problems with MMCSS disabled.

SONAR (still on 2016.10) runs so well without a glitch I don't feel the need to enable MMCSS - well, a test wouldn't hurt but sometimes I'm really lazy...and just keep what works.

I don't have it enabled in the RME driver. Although to be honest I never really paid much attention to the "About" tab in the RME control panel.

I'm like batsbrew - I just plugged my Babyface in and started working. My system runs great.

I have a UFX and DO NOT have the MMCSS box checked. I have never had a problem and have tried it briefly both ways. I couldn't tell the difference with it checked or not. That doesn't necessarily say there wasn't a difference, maybe if I had more channels recording or more things going on it would make a difference. But thus far I have left it off and not had any issues.

I would be interested in knowing which way is best.

Thank  you so much!! We always say, if one person gets some enjoyment out of what we do, it's all worth the work!!

By the way, everything we've done is free on bandcamp. Just "buy" and put in $0 and you can download. The "Blue Sky" album is still in the "works." We release interim songs to bandcamp until we're done with the Album, then we release to all the other music services. So "Blue Sky" will have a few more songs added and will eventually change slightly due to mastering.

Enjoy, you made my day!!
