Entering music with PC keyboard

I'm trying to find a way for entering music when I can focus on the music itself and not wrestle with pecculiar ways music apps make me to do so. My eyes are anything but good, but I still use them, watching a PC monitor from about 5 cm (2") away of it. That means I can't use any standard keyboard controller, since it makes me to be too far from the screen. That applies for any control surface as well, so I'm left with PC keyboard and mouse to comfortably enter music. Yes, I can record things, but that means constantly shifting myself from a PC to a musical keyboard and back. And that's really not about focusing on music.

Ok, now I'm sitting by the monitor, but entering music in most DAWs means very heavy usage of mouse, and that's a hell for my poor eyes, since I have to constantly watch for a mouse pointer, which distracts me from focusing on music as well. So the most comfortable way for me to enter music is a notator style, where I'm determining a note length and then writing notes by note names. That's ok, if you're creating a sheet music, but not as ok if you're trying to create an actual piece of music.

So my question is quite simple, but looking the answer up in Sonar's docs isn't so simple. Does Sonar provide a comfortable way for entering music using PC keyboard only? If yes, where is it documented? Is there a video describing such a way of entering music?

I own the latest Platinum edition of Sonar with lifetime updates.

Thanks for your help in advance.
