Rectify - Best Dramatic Series from the US Ever?

Just watched the final episode of Rectify on the Sundance Channel and I cannot think of another series (at least one from my side of the Atlantic) that has ever surpassed it for script, direction, pacing, acting - total perfection on every front.  Many probably missed it because it was on Sundance (that channel's first original dramatic production, at that).  When it hits DVD and/or Netflix streaming, most highly recommended.

Its now available on Netflix streaming. 4-seasons. A little binge watching in store.

Yep, I'd agree with David.  It's the best of all those things and great binge material.  Loved the series and it ended great, too.  Amantha is my favorite character.  Abigail Spencer nails this character and her cynicism becomes an endearing quality.

You do need to throw in a comedy hour every couple or three episodes though...it's a heavy show.

I passed on it, thinking it was a reality series about colonoscopies.

Just finished the binge of it. Great series. Thanks for the recommendation.

I'll recommend the series "Bloodline" on Netflix. Similar mood with great characters and an offbeat plot line. Only 2 seasons so far but, really great acting, writing and scenery. The music is pretty good also.

Thanks.  I know of several good Netflix series but was not aware of this one.  I only get Netflix disks - don't do streaming.  Their series eventually end up available on disk (at least a few have in the past), but you must wait a *very* long time it seems.  So, this one is now saved in my queue along with Sense8, Stranger Things, and several others.

Bloodline was pretty good but it's been canceled by Netflix.  I'm not sure if some other provider will pick the show up or not, but it ended with a pretty major cliff hanger.  So there's no closure if you start this one.

Sense8 was great, very sexually adventurous too, let's say...

David, add Lillyhammer to your queue, too. Imagine if you distilled just the funny bits out of The Sopranos and threw in some fish-out-of-water culture shock. Who knew Norwegians were so frickin' funny?

I'll make a note... AMC just aired the whole Breaking Bad series this week and I recorded it all... We just started season 2 and as of now Walter White is my hero! He is a smart version of me. I don't know if I'll like what he becomes but so far so good!
I managed to completely miss this the first time around and would not watch the random episodes they aired. Probably getting Netflix soon anyway.

I finally got around to The Walking Dead, just on season 5. It's getting a bit repetitive now (group splits up, some go to a place where everyone is not what they seem, big escape fight, group reunites, key cast member gets killed). I doubt if I'll get much further. The zombies can't run, and need a head kill to be stopped, so I keep thinking ''why hasn't everyone got a nice long spear by now?''

Just heard that Line of Duty is back for a 4th series in 2017, best UK cop drama in years.

Awesome news!  Last I read there was no plan for a final season.  I'm glad Netflix allowed us some closure, at least, ha ha.

Cakewalk folks sure have good taste.  Breaking Bad was such an awesome show, great characters, great story, great characters, great ending, and great characters.  One thing you may or may not find interesting...most of the actors on Breaking Bad are comedians, doing dramedy.  Vince Gilligan said something about comedians making the best dramatic actors.  Enjoy!

Breaking Bad is brilliant. I'd go so far as to say the best series of it's type ever. I'm usually reasonably good at seeing where plots are going, but it twists all the time in ways I just didn't see coming. I'm trying my best to forget what happened so I can watch it all again. When I heard about the "pre-quel" follow up "Better call Saul" it smelled of desperately milking BB a bit more, but I wanted more so I watched and somehow it works.

My fears as well initially.  But Better Call Saul hit it out of the ballpark, IMO.  Can't wait for the new season to start.

Great recommendation David. I was able to watch all 4-seasons through Sundance Channel on-demand. I felt the acting was extraordinary. At times it can be considered a bit slow moving by some, but the drama and characters still kept me enthralled. It is up there with Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Walking Dead, Sopranos.

For anyone interested, there was a mention in the final episode about a song that John Lennon and Harry Nilsson recorded together. My search came up with the following. Anybody wish to submit otherwise?

Lennon produced Nilsson's album 'Pussy Cats' in 1974 (not very good) so they certainly worked together.
