Editing (copy and paste) in PRV ever fixed?

We all have heard or maybe experienced, copy and pasting in PRV mode sometimes gives odd results.  At first I thought this had something to do with tracks in focus on the track view and sometimes changing the track in focus on track view has cleared this up but other times, NO GO.

The symptom on my end is after selecting a group of MIDI notes (making sure that the now time bar is located at the beginning of the selection), and then moving the now time to the location I wish to paste the copy, you get nothing pasted and I have learned to hit CNTL Z immediately so that I don't get midi events somewhere else that is unwanted.  I believe that users with duplicate MIDI notes are falling victim to this situation.

Is this a known issue to CAKE or is there something to read that explains why this is happening randomly?  I would say that 80% of the time, the copy paste function in PRV works as expected but the other 20% of the time, what a PITA.  And usually, once it starts happening, I can't get it working again without exiting SONAR.

This bug is actually a global copy-paste issue, not specific to the PRV but also appearing in the staff view and the event list.  This has been confirmed to be an issue in all releases of Platinum after 22.7 (22.7 is OK).

I've sent two emails to Noel Borthwick about this, have not received a reply, and I have also filed problem reports with CW, as, I think, others have.   Copying and pasting are essential and basic operations to any DAW (actually to almost all software) and Cakewalk should address this immediately.  I've paid for lifetime updates but cannot update beyond 22.7 because of this bug so I am starting to feel like I've been given a bad deal as CW drags its feet in fixing something that affects all users...

Jerry, are you referring to the fact that the Starting Track value in the Paste Special dialog doesn't override the focused track as it should? Because I don't know any paste target issues other than that, and it's easily avoided by ensuring the focused track is correct

I realize this is somewhat inconvenient when you want to paste to a track other than the current one from the Staff or Event List views, but it doesn't sound like that's the case for the OP.

I know there have been a lot of complaints about SONAR's pasting logic over the years, but I think the vast majority of cases have ultimately turned out to be due to user misunderstanding of the independence of clip selection and track focus.

It's always been solid for me with the exception of some issues related to paste not being fully lane-aware, and that's now been addressed as well.

EDIT: It occurs to me that there' one outstanding bug that's somewhat relvant, which is that track focus switching in the PRV doesn't work as expected when there's a locked PRV in the project. But that bug usually means the the material pastes to the same track from which it was copied, which wouldn't explain 'disappearance' of the pasted material.

No, the starting value (location of paste) is determined by where the start point is set, that's not the issue.  The issue I've experienced is when I copy material, say from track 2 at measure 5, and want to paste it to track 6, the material sometimes ends up on a random track, perhaps track 20.   I don't know about PRV usage, I never use that feature.   The paste-special command normally overrides the active track, in other words, if my active track is 4 and I use paste special and choose to paste to track 10, it works.  But the latest versions seem to require that the track in which material is pasted into must be the active track, which defeats the purpose of paste-special.
I hope this helps clarify the issue.
