Does Automap work in Sonar Platinum??

I just got a used Novation ZeRO SL MkII, and downloaded and installed the Automap 4.10 software. I went through the setup process, and it added (automap) .dll files to my plugins folders. So now I see two of everything in my plugins lists.

But the worst part is that if I try to insert a soft synth, Sonar crashes.

Is this software supposed to work in Sonar? It is claimed to work.

Thanks.

Hey Clay . . . I have Automap 4.10 working in Sonar Platinum, though I actually originally installed Automap version 3.8 while I was using Sonar X3 . . . I recently did the upgrade to 4.10, and it continues to work in the most recent version of Platinum.

I do remember the install to get it all working was very tricky, but after quite some time I did get it working.
Yes, the install basically duplicates and renames all your plugin list with "Automap" in the name of the VST.

As far as your crashing issue, not sure I can be much help, though I've found some plugins don't play well with the renamed version of the plugin. Are you sure it's Automap that causing the crashes ? Try disabling Automap in Sonar preferences and see if the crashing persists.

What did you do about the duplicate plugins in the lists?

I just went into plugin manager and turned off all the original VST names that weren't called Automap.
For the few that wouldn't work as being renamed, I got rid of the Automap naming.
It seems not all plugins can be used with Automap, depending which plugins you have ?
For example, my Melodyne VST had to be adjusted (by removing the Automap naming) to avoid a crash situation.
Hope this helps you get it working.

Interesting. I have done a system restore, but I might give that renaming a try. Do you mean you renamed the plugin filenames on the disk, in the plugin folders?

    Thanks.

To be perfectly honest I don't think that Automap has ever worked particularly well in any version sonar! Way too much investment for not enough return. Maybe is is just the Ultranova.

I tried installing Automap 4.10 yesterday, hoping the new version might have fewer issues that prior versions, but it didn't work as well as I had hoped and it was deja-poo all over again( Impulse 61) .... I'm sure with some coaxing/tweaking/etc it may work fine, and the AZ Controller tool would surely have helped; but I have to agree with Bruce, for me the ROI just isn't there.

I mean that I went into Cakewalk Plugin manager and turned off the non "automap" plugins, just to clean things up, and not have to scan a bunch of VSTs on startup that aren't being used  . . . I only renamed a few VST filenames for the plugins that cause problems with automap, that was just to avoid crashing issues, when trying to use them.

I agree with the sentiment of others here, it's just too much fiddling to get it all partially working, there is a lot of wasted time . . . it became clear that Novation claims to support Sonar, but their tech support didn't really have much useful advice for my Sonar/Automap experience . . . in retrospect I wish I had gone for the Native Instruments keyboard controller, and may yet do that.

However, that doesn't help lahatte, since he's bought it, and I would still like to help get it working if I can, because when it works, it works well enough.

Thanks guys. I can still use this ZeRO SL MkII without automap, I think, by manually mapping to controls? That will be tedious as well.

But I don't know what to do to make the transport controls work in Sonar. Any advice there?

You could probably use Sonar's ACT midi mapping feature in learn mode, move some sliders and connect them to your device, one by one.

Are you referring to the transport controls? I haven't done much investigating, but I do not see that they provide the learn option like other controls.

lahatte . . . yes SWA, those are great videos to get you started.
There are actually a lot of great threads here on the Cakewalk Forum about this issue, and even some about your Zero SL MkII (seems a lot of others have questions about this) . . . try doing this google search:
    ACT and Novation site:forum.cakewalk.com
You might find the correct information you need from one of those threads.
