SONG: "Brace Position"
Hi, I've got a new song out. It's called "Brace Position" - you can check it out here: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13508450This one is a little "moody", but it is the product of cold winter evenings and the uncertainty of entering "uncharted territory" in 2017 ;-) This features some U-he Diva, which is my new favourite analog synth emulation, plus all the regulars: real (strat and tele) guitars (through Scuffham amp sims) Trilian bass Superior drums etc built in SONAR Platinum As usual, let me know what you think...

Nice work John! The production and playing are great! I really like the breaks where the guitar comes to the front and makes a statement. Love the guitar tone and the thoughtful tasty guitar work - especially at the breaks. Keep up the good work!

This has your usual excellent guitar playing, but you've brought something extra that makes it really feel like a band. Nice tune, with a really great feel or vibe to it. That synth brings some cool rhythmic expression to the track. Regards, Dan

Hi Dan, Thanks a lot for listening and for your comments. I was afraid this might be too "over the top" with processed drums and heavy guitar - I'm glad to get some positive feedback. ;-) The synth parts are Diva, and I love the sound of it on the arpeggiated part.

Excellent intro! Very moody yes, but I like that. Cool guitar work throughout John, I like the tones and phrasing, and your use of long delays. Mix works too, nice sense of space, plenty of dynamics and stuff coming in and out. Right up my street really, I enjoyed this very much.

Your song makes me want to learn how to play the guitar! You are getting some great tones, more than I can do with S-Gear. No real crits - I got a Rush vibe when I heard that backing synth - coolness! cheers, -Tom

Thanks a lot for listening Tom - and for your comments. you're the second person who's mentioned Rush - I'm gonna have to listen to them ;-) I use Torpedo Wall of Sound III for speaker cabinets with S-Gear now, and I like the sound of them. You can still get great sounds from just S-Gear though - I just think WOS makes it easier to pick speaker IRs. I'm using pretty much all single coil guitars, and I think it's pretty easy to get a good sound from S-Gear. What are you using?

I like the song. I love the guitar tone and the understated playing. Guitars work well with the synth. Really, terrific work.

Hi John, Let us start with new year wishes Then..
I am fan of your music.. And maybe once ,I will pass the rubicon and.. Buy one of your albums.
This tune is great ,I hear easily the bass and get some of what the guitars are saying,but..sorry,sorry..it is quite busy out here..lots of people playing( Don't missunderstand what I'm saying,I suppose you are all theese people). So just to tell you that I'm a fan but imho this tune is a little bit " over produced " and I think it would gain some clarity by putting off some voices here and there.
All the best.
Olivier.

John, this is very tasty. You should be doing demos for S-Gear, I never seem to get the tones that you get from the same gear. I'm going to listen to this a few more times...

Hi Olivier, Happy new year to you too! Thanks a lot for listening and for your comments. You are right - I am all these people ;-) It is always a problem - knowing "when to stop" adding parts etc. so there is nothing wrong with a comment reminding me not to get carried away ;-) Lynn - Thanks a lot for listening, and for your comments too. I don't really go crazy tweaking S-Gear. I just have a few basic "stock" presets, and tweak them accordingly ;-) I find that S-Gear sounds great without trying too hard. Maybe I'm just lucky with my guitars, and the way I play - or with using a little eq etc in SONAR ;-)

Guitars sound great, no surprise there. You may not go crazy tweaking S-Gear, but guess what, it works really well for ya. I liked the synth arps and the fat leads too, they sound good and blend nicely. The whole arrangement + mix just sounds good.
