ASIO driver just stopped working
Lynx 2 card, works for all programs in ASIO mode. Sonar just stopped making sound today. Maybe correlated in time to install of some new Waves plugins, maybe not. Win7, Platinum latest. Samplitude and Audition and all work fine in ASIO, Sonar works in WDM mode. Meters all show responses, program is stable, just no delivery of digital stream to the soundcard. Just like that. Uninstalled Platinum and reinstalled via command center; reinstalled Lynx driver twice. Deleted AUD.ini and let it rebuild. Nothing. Very frustrating, and although WDM shows 2.7 ms latency and all, I expect issues with that. Crazy bad luck. No idea what did it. Will deinstall the Waves plugins and see if anything works. They did install several new Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables. I may deinstall them to troubleshoot. Anyone ever have this?

THe only time I've had anything similar, the cause was Sonar resetting the input and output devices in preferences. The devices were listed but not selected.

I have had CONSTANT trouble with the ASIO drivers disappearing in Sonar but still having audio operating in every other program in Windows. I have tried EVERYTHING I could think of and any and all recommendations here on this forum. It still sporadically happens for no apparent reason! It crashes so hard that I have to uninstall the drivers, get online and let Windows Update reinstall before they show up again in Splat. I hate having this issue but the 2 Studio-Captures synched give me the 32 ins and 20 outs that I need for realtime large live recording venues. The ASIO drivers are the only ones that give me the low latency I need. I can't even get a copy of the windows 10 drivers to keep on my hard drive for emergencies.

Good catch there Sidroe. I never realized that Microsoft has exclusive access to some of our most important drivers. I wonder where they reside once you D/L them?

Ampfixer, the download of just the driver MINUS the installer can be downloaded from Microsoft's Archive with Internet Explorer. There are details in this forum of how to do it. That didn't work for me because there is no installer package with the driver. What good is that? I never did understand how to get the system to locate and recognize the driver. I kept getting errors so I just knelt to the mercy of Windows 10 Update. Everyone else says that a simple re-boot will do the job but it never works for me. If Microsoft ever abandons those drivers I am toast!!!

You may want to check to see if your Windows "Sound" setting for sharing the device is consistent with your exclusive mode settings in Sonar. e.g., allow exclusive checked in Windows and Sonar set to not share drivers with other programs or allow exclusive unchecked in Windows and Sonar set to share.

Gcolbert, thanks for the tip but already tried that long ago. No results. Still intermittently crashes!

I actually had to not only reinstall Sonar, but reinstall my whole OS (from an image). Something corrupted something, and I don't know what. I'll be imaging every three days now!

Also make sure that your Windows audio isn't using your ASIO interface as the "Default" output before you start Sonar. Otherwise Sonar won't be able to access it. Just figured that one out after cursing Sonar for a few hours hehehehe
