Saving project in MP3

I am trying to save a project to be sent to a friend.
He suggested I save as MP3.
I tried doing it, but somehow it will not let me.
Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance for any help.

    Export it as an MP3.

I used to use the Cakewalk approved MP3 converter that they used to sell on the website. I think it used the fraunhofer mp3 conversion algorithm. But at some point it quit working for me.

What I do now is, export your song as a 16-bit WAV file. Then import it into iTunes. In iTunes there is a way to convert audio files into MP3s. But you have to turn it on in the preferences. You just have to select MP3 as the file conversion type in the iTunes "setting" panel of the preferences.

    Works for me anyway ...

it appears i've fallen off the tune-wagon yet again ...

I would also recommend exporting as a wav first. This gives you the opportunity to check that your export settings are fine and the wav should sound no different to your project.

Once this is done, you can use the wav to convert to MP3
