Find Missing Audio File does not open

MY current project somehow lost all audio files, I ran CWAF and found these files to be marked as "Orphaned". How do I re-associate these audio files with the project? "Find Missing Audio Files" never opened up for me to search and tell the project where to look. Running Sonar Producer 8.5.3 and Windows 7

Copy paste them from where they are to the projects audio folder. Simple.

They are already in Project-Audio. I can click on each one individually and they play in WMP, however when I ran CWAF they all show up as orphaned. When I open the project it opens without any audio files, also surprised "Find Missing Audio File"  dialog box never opens.

It sounds like something in the project file corrupted.
Cactus' suggestion is probably best, especially if it's only happening in one project.

A less-likely cause could be incompatibility between Sonar8.5 and your OS (i could be wrong but suspect it was only supported until XP).

I have 8.5 on W 10. I don't use it but it certainly opens. I just install it to get V Vocal and the Lexicon reverb.

It's weird if the audio is actually in the projects audio folder and it still does not load.
Did you change the name of the project?
Do those audio files have the exact same name?

Example Projects name " Shook up"  Audio files should read " Shook up, Bass 1 ,rec(324) .wav "

If you changed the name of the song to "Shook up 2" you will loose the connection to the audio.
Options are to rename the audio files so they match the song title or try drag and drop from the media browser.

Is a strange issue. Didn't change the name, and yes the wav files have the exact same name. Still CWAF calls the files "orphaned". Not sure what you mean by drag and drop from the media browser tho.

have you tried saving the project with a new name to a new folder
    use the "Save as" function.

You can drag and drop audio files directly onto the track view.
I'm assuming the project opens with a bunch of blank tracks.
If not insert new audio tracks and drag and drop the wave files there.
Only thing is if a track contained start and stop edits and punch ins that track will be broken up into multiple wave files. There fore the numbering system that only Sonar can decipher.
In that case you just have to listen to them and decide where they should be on the time line.
This method won't be much fun on a complicated song with 30 wave files in the audio folder but it might be your last resort other than just redoing all the tracks.

It shouldn't matter, but you haven't changed the sample rate?

Totally untrue. Renaming a project does not lose its file associations. Sure it assigns names to newly imported audio files based on the project name, but it retains the file association thereafter. If it worked the way you are implying that would be ridiculous.

Dropped files into tracks, lots of dots and file description (song and track name/number) prefix the audio file, waveform loads but does not play audio, no sound is generated. I could probably deal with the track alignment if the audio played,...WTF?

Thank Kev for the clarification but I'm totally groping at straws here.
I wish a few more folks would offer something to the OP.
And from his last post it looks like it's a big mess somewhere.

OK so to test if this is just not possible a corrupted project.
Import any  wave or Mp3 file and see if that plays/
What happens in this project if you record a new track?

There's another thing other people talk about that I've never done and that's  the Aud ini file

So I dropped a wav file into an empty track, did not play back.
Recorded a new track, audio file waveform showed up in track view, no sound played back.
Opened a new project, dropped a wav from non working project into track, played back OK,
Went to advanced settings in options and reset aud.ini, no change, audio files didn't load, new track didn't play back.
Looks like something is corrupt somewhere. Have so many EQ and plug-ins in original project, stand to loose all that,......CRAP!

If CWAF says the files are orphaned, and the project doesn't prompt for them, then I think they must have been deleted from the project before it was saved. Random corruption would not have produced such an orderly and complete disassociation of all files from the project. And I'm guessing there's a good reason why tracks with re-imported audio are silent. Can you share a copy of the project file without audio somewhere?

You can send just the CWP file,, they only contain the midi data and project settings.
    Do you use drop box?
I agree with Dave about corrupted files.
And your test now points to an issue with audio playback.
This is another long shot, but did you check your Master output?
If you insert a soft synth, like TTS-1 and play midi or trigger sound from the GUI do you hear that?
    Do you hear the metronome?
Did you try bypassing all effects.
When you imported a fresh wave file did you put it in a newly inserted audio track that is output to your master buss or directly to your audio interface?

Do not hear the metronome during playback, changed output assignment (don't know why it changed?), now hearing audio tracks that were dropped onto track view.

PM one of us,you need over 30 posts to post links or pictures.
My e mail is on my web site too.

Did you check your master outputs are going to your audio interfaces outputs that your speakers are running from. I've had no sound and it was because my outputs had swapped over to SPDIF.

OK I got the PM and I'll wait for the file.

I think we are now dealing with a different issue. You have your audio in place now but your project is silent. So you need to check your signal path from end to end.

First you say the metronome is silent. My default for metronome goes directly to my audio interface 1/2 out that's why I asked that. Even if your master buss is muted the metronome should sound.

Check your audio engine is running.

What are you using for an audio interface?

Here's the CWP file for others if they want to figure this out.
But yes, audio doesn't play. I even droped a wave file in myself and the meter for the track doesn't move??
I would abandon this project , open a new one and drop your audio in that. It's not a busy project so will be no big deal to re build.

Yes, feeling silly! What CW version are you working with? Has a more intuitive/simple workspace? I hate the way some things don't fit on the screen completely. Maybe adjust resolution.

I should have said something; my first check was going to be for a hidden soloed track. Should have just asked if solo button in the mix module was lit.

But there are so many ways to make a project go silent, it seemed like it would be faster to lay hands on.

Does anyone know if KevinWhite (who had the same orphan file issue)ever got a resolution? I can drop the files into place but there are multiple files per track that would have to be aligned properly. Seems if I could re-associate those orphans with the project, CW would know exactly where to put them, yes?

You have not told us if the issue was the solo being on. Do you now have audio?

And how would we know if Kevin resolved his issue  We assume he did and moved on.  PM him and ask.
It's sort of bad forum etiquette to just disappear without marking the thread "solved"
And one of our goals is so a solved thread will also show on google and help many others out there.
