EastWest and Fishman announce new line of Virtual Instruments for Guitarists
EastWest has teamed up with Fishman, maker of the TriplePlay Wireless MIDI Guitar Controller, to develop a series of virtual instruments specifically for MIDI guitarists. The new EastWest MIDI Guitar Instruments series will differ from the current EastWest virtual sounds, which are optimized for keyboards, in that they will be selected and designed to take advantage of the complex and unique waveforms produced by a guitar's vibrating strings. Initial sound offerings will cover a wide range of musical styles and instrument families. "We have been testing MIDI guitar systems for years, and the TriplePlay is the best in class," says EastWest Producer Doug Rogers. "So EastWest and Fishman worked together, re-programming the instruments and making adjustments to the software specifically for the Fishman TriplePlay. It all works incredibly well as you can see in the video we produced. In fact, it opens up a whole new world for guitar players who have been grappling with decades-old technology. I know many of our users consider themselves to be guitar players first, so they will now be able to compose using their preferred instrument, instead of a keyboard."Fishman founder and president, Larry Fishman states, "The opportunity of collaborating with EastWest is very exciting for not only our two companies, but also for guitarists who are looking to explore new avenues of creativity and sound. EastWest virtual instruments are the choice of top music, film, TV, and gaming performers and composers. I look forward to working with the EastWest team to expand the TriplePlay orbit of third-party software supporters by creating a collection of guitar-optimized, easily accessed and compatible sound libraries that will build on the already formidable list of TriplePlay features and benefits."Experience the EastWest MIDI Guitar Instruments/Triple Play at NAMM 2017The first EastWest MIDI Guitar collection will be demonstrated in the Fishman booth (C-4340) at NAMM and released shortly after. The first releases will include a selection of instruments of every type that will be augmented by product expansions throughout 2017. Pricing will be announced prior to release. I had just ordered the Fishman TriplePlay right before I saw this thread. Should be arriving next week. Curious to see where this goes. This will be my first guitar/midi device. Thanks Larry.

My biggest concern is it will be something really great... and equally pricey. EastWest stuff is not cheap. Sometimes cheaper but not cheap. Except almost a year ago when that guy was selling on Amazon. I got Fab Four sent from The Gooberlan...I mean Nederland's and the product box was pretty much just pieces of cardboard in a shipping box. He knocked $20 off so I didn't care.

I have one of these pickups coming tomorrow - now I'm actually hoping we get the ice storm that forces us to stay inside! :) This has been the holy grail for me for over 20 years. I remember having an early Roland in the mid 90s and the GK-2A pickup. I've tried dedicated midi controllers, software like Guitar2Midi - nothing has really been usable. I am doubtful about this - and prepared to send it back - but man oh man I hope this is finally the real deal...

Just take the time to get the set up right. It's not hard but you may need to keep tweaking a little. Once the setup is right you will get to see how good (and fast) it tracks. I don't open the software very often so I can't speak to that. Setting up splits wasn't hard IIRC. I just use it like another midi controller. The wireless deal is the business.

I have it set up right, but I'm not impressed so far. I stepped a way for a few days and will come back at it fresh. At this time, I'm not seeing the hype...

I agree. For years I had heard how good the Axon was so when the FTP came out I thought I'd give it a try. Part of my problem is the setup - I use to have a GK1 PU on a BC Rich ST so I tried the FTP on that, but it has a large radius fret board and the hi e is a little weak. I suspect that since it runs off a battery they limit the gain on the PUs. GK PUs work fine on that guitar. If I want to do GTR-to-midi I use a GR-55, it tracks better for me or a You Rock Gen 2 guitar. For guitar synth I mostly use a VG-99, SY-300, and EH Key 9 - modifying the guitar signal works much better than pitch recognition at this time.

So far I'm not overly impressed, but I will see if I can fine tune it better as well as maybe having to adjust my buffer settings. Right now it seems to lag a bit. My first foray into guitar/midi so I will give it a little time.

I can go down to 64 samples on my Apollo if I pretty much have nothing else going but Komplete Kontrol. It's playable, but it's NOT as good as I hoped. Also, in a creative process I can never get that low - I start usually start with BFD and Stylus and then some guitars... By the time I'm ready to lay down some synth parts I think I'd be hard pressed to go lower than 128. At 128, the latency of my Komplete Kontrol is negligible. A little more testing to do, but I think it's going back.

I'm not in the least bit surprised. When I first saw it, I had a moment of "wth are they thinking" to "that sounds terrible" after hearing the demos. The device doesn't give you enough control over your samples to begin with. That's just the beginning of the issues.
