Norwegian Wood
I've been suffering a dearth of original ideas for a spell. This is the sort of thing that keeps me occupied while my muse is busy elsewhere. Acoustic guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, and synth by me. My beautiful wife Stephanie did the harmony for me. I would be the first to agree that the synth is entirely superfluous, but I'd just got a new keyboard and had to take it for a test drive. here it is, I hope you like it. If you don't, tell me why, I can take it. Unlike my esteemed peer, ABull, I welcome comments regarding mix and everything else. However, despite my best efforts, my stuff all does indeed sound like demo. Mark http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13513325

Nice cover Mark, I like the mando & banjo, they fit well. Can't comment on the mix cos my ears are blocked but it's good to see you posting again.

Only listening on my DT 100's, I like this cover, the mix works on the cans, thanks for sharing. Will try later to have a proper listen.

First, never apologize for an arrangement choice. The synth is fine. Not every cover has to be traditional. I think the instrumentation works quite well. As for the mix, I'd like to hear some of the instruments panned outside of the center. You've got such a big voice that it might have been better to do this song a bit higher in pitch. Finally, some percussion would be nice. Regards, Dan

Thanks, James. Thanks, Wook. Thanks, Dan. I only panned the banjo and mandolin, about 30% L&R, try to give it a little space, and the double tracked harmony. The reason I didn't do it a step higher is that I discovered I don't have a capo in the house. Probably loaned it out 20 years ago and never got it back. It's at the lowest vocal range for me. I tried generating percussion with Jammer, but I simply can't get a good sounding track in 3; everything sounds like ooompahpah, so I abandoned it. Thanks for listening with a critical ear.

I really liked this cover version, the choice of instrumentation is well placed and I enjoyed the mandolin playing. The mix does however sound a touch narrow to these ears, been guilty of this myself in a couple of my tracks last year.

biodiode - how would you solve that problem? Given that I've panned the banjo and mandolin about 30%r&L. bw, glad you like it. Fun is what it's all about.
