S-Gear 2.60 Available

Hi folks, I hope you are having a good start to 2017.  I'm very pleased to announce that S-GEAR v2.6 is released and available for download.  This is a free upgrade for all existing S-GEAR customers.

DOWNLOAD S-GEAR v2.6
DOWNLOAD S-GEAR v2.6 for iLOK

S-GEAR v2.6 includes excellent new cabinet models based on measurements of two vintage AC30 combo amplifiers acquired by us for the purpose of analysis and inspiration!  After several test measurements, we selected the best sounding speakers to include in the S-GEAR v2.6 release.

The SA30F refers to our '62 fawn combo and the SA30B refers to our '63 black combo. The cabinets themselves are almost identical, however the individual speakers sound different. The SA30F has a slightly brighter sound with a pleasing attack.  The SA30B is richer and more punchy.

Scuffham cabinet impulse responses are measured in our dedicated listening room which has been acoustically treated with a mixture of high quality absorbent panels and wooden diffusers along with large Hofa bass traps in the corners. The resulting impulses are free of any distinct early reflections, giving a natural frequency response and a precise sound.

Tax-Inclusive Pricing for 2017
As of January 2017 we are offering S-GEAR with tax-inclusive pricing.  This is a big deal for customers in certain parts of the world where VAT can add a significant chunk to the check-out price.  If you don't yet have an S-GEAR license, now is as good time to buy.

S-GEAR in the Slate Digital Everything Bundle
As some of you may know, S-GEAR is now part of the Slate Digital Everything Bundle.  The Everything Bundle is a subscription based product which includes the full collection of industry-leading Slate Digital audio plug-ins. Inclusion in the bundle has brought S-GEAR to the attention of a much wider audience. Steven and the Slate Digital team have shown great commitment to S-GEAR and we are pleased to be part of the project.

Development Activity
I know that many people are keen to know what we are working on and why there hasn't been any major features added to S-GEAR since Jan 2015.  Whilst it is great business to provide a continual flow of new releases, it is also important to take a pause from time to time and review the core technology that underpins the product. This is where my focus has been for the last 18 months.

Prior to launching S-GEAR, I spent the best part of two years developing the tube modelling technology which provides the foundation for all existing S-GEAR amps. These amps are still going strong and there is a growing user base of which a significant proportion constitutes professional musicians and producers.

My mission is to keep producing the best software based amps that I possibly can. This requires not only a commitment to continual research and experimentation, but also a commitment to quality, however long that takes to achieve.

I am extremely grateful for the continual good will, support and enthusiasm shown by our customers.  It's makes me very happy to hear from customers for whom S-GEAR has become an integral part of their musical production process. This is exactly what I want to achieve.

Here's looking forward to a productive and exciting 2017.

Best Wishes,
Mike Scuffham

If I'm reading this right, they released AC-30 cabinets but not an AC-30 amp model?

That is what it sounds like - I haven't downloaded the update yet. That would also seem to indicate what the next amp will likely be and it seems like a nice addition to the current line up.

It's just two new IRs.
He has explained the delay in developement, and has provided crazy value for S-Gear over the years. I expect some cool things in the future.

Updated. Both sound great with a Strat preset I'd set up using the Wayfarer amp. S Gear is my go to amp sim, I know these things are subjective but imho nothing else comes close.

The Wayfarer is really great. All the S-Gear amps are great.
The problem here is that I like wah pedals and fuzz boxes and all those types of toys.
S-Gear doesn't have them so I am stuck between Amplitube 4 and Guitar Rig 5 as my
go-to amp sims.

I don't get this at all. I keep going back and forth between my AX8 and S-Gear, and S-Gear is every bit as good tone wise.
Now if you play metal...I get it totally. He would be better off making a great metal amp than the VOX he's probably working on.

I own many amp sims and they are all very good, but S-Gear gets the call 95% of the time.
It sounds great with both a real guitar or a sampled guitar. For whatever reason, it always sounds great in my mixes.
It has easily been the best buy I have ever made on music software.
Guitar tone is a highly subjective topic and others may disagree.
S-Gear also doubles as a great effects plugin.

I usually run S-Gear in Sonar and sometimes have other fx loaded. On occasion I've run GR 5 for the fx (no amps) and S-Gear for the amp.

Good advice, Robert
...but I mostly use the stand-alone version, so no-go.
If the stand-alone version had a vst slot,  that  would solve my problem.

It sounds amazing to me too. I have no complaints about the sound. As far as the Vox goes, I would guess he's working on a vox model and at least 1 metal model. The vox is the most requested on his forum and the lack of a metal amp is the biggest complaint. To me it seems improbable that he's been working for 2 years on 1 amp model when he was able to make previous ones in about 6 months.

This is just my speculation, but I'm guessing S-gear 3 will have a vox style amp, a metal amp and a pedal board/FX Section. I'm guessing there will be other smaller improvements too. My guess is that it will be released around summer NAMM. S-gear will be shown there and it is the first time in a while Scuffham has been to a trade show. There would be no point in attending if there is nothing new to show, so I assume S-gear will be released either right before or right after the show.
